Box Score 2 Upper Iowa earned another spilt at the PFX Spring Games in Florida with a 5-1 victory over Slippery Rock University after suffering a 8-4 setback to Hillsdale College in the opener. The Peacocks are now 3-8 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday afternoon against Saint Thomas Aquinas College and Bloomfield College.
The Peacocks were once again lead by the duo of Kaylee Frenette and Jordyn Brennan who combined for seven of UIU's 15 total hits while each scoring two runs and driving in a pair. Ali Green went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a score against Hillsdale, and Katie Crogan collected two hits and two RBI on the day.
Hillsdale 8, Upper Iowa 4
A two-run homer in the bottom of the first and an rbi-single in the fourth gave the Chargers a 3-0 lead, but Upper Iowa used a big fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Peacocks pieced together a walk, four-straight singles, and a sacrifice fly during the comeback effort. Shortly after, an unearned run allowed Hillsdale to tie up the game at 4-all. After three quick outs in the top half of the sixth, the Chargers were able to work some magic and score four runs on five hits and an error in the bottom to set the final score at 8-4.
Emily Kisch (1-3) suffered the loss after allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits. The senior tallied five strikeouts during the effort. Sydney Wilcox entered in the sixth to record the final HC out, which came in strikeout fashion.
Upper Iowa 5, Slippery Rock 1
The Peacocks pushed their advantage to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth after scoring a run in the first and third frames thanks to a pair of SRU errors. After Slippery Rock cut into the lead by one, Upper Iowa capitalized on a hit and two more errors in the sixth frame to move ahead 5-1 and claim the four-run victory.
Abby McKay (2-2) collected her second complete game win in as many days. The freshman struck out two batters and allowed just one run on six hits and three walks.
