Box Score 2 Upper Iowa used a pair of 8-run performances to sweep the second day of their season-opening weekend in Arkansas. The Peacocks scored an 8-7 win over No. 20 Arkansas Tech University and an 8-7 win over the University of Central Missouri to close out their time in Russellville. The team will head east to Conway to finish their time in the Razorback state with a double header against Washburn University on Monday.

The Peacocks got on the board early against the Golden Suns after a single and two walks loaded the bases with only one out in the first. After the home team got a strikeout,
Ali Green singled to left and drove in a pair of baserunners to stake Upper Iowa to a 2-0 lead.
Arkansas Tech wasted no time getting those runs back in the bottom of the first. A two-run homer to right center tied the game at 2-2.
UIU's bats came alive again in the third inning when
Katie Crogan singled in a run after a leadoff single by
Jenny Budds and a sac bunt from
Jordyn Brennan. Green pushed two more runs across the plate two batters later with a two-run blast to center field giving UIU a 5-2 lead.
The Peacocks added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the fifth when
Amanda Williams and
Emily Draeger both walked with the bases loaded to push the visitors out to a 7-2 lead.
The Golden Suns scratched a pair of runs back in the bottom of the inning after rbi-doubles just one batter apart and only one out in the inning.
Emily Kisch came on in relief of starter
Sydney Wilcox to get the final two outs of the inning without any more damage in the fifth. However, the nationally-ranked Golden Suns slimmed the lead to 7-6 in the sixth with a second two-run long ball.
In the seventh, Crogan led the inning off with a homer to left center providing a little breathing room heading to the final half inning.
Arkansas Tech scored a run with a double to left center after a leadoff walk, but a strike out and a foul out to the catcher ended the threat and gave UIU the 8-7 win.
Wilcox got her second win of the season and improved to 2-0 on the season with 4.1 innings of work. The sophomore allowed 4 runs on 4 hits and 5 walks while striking out a batter. Kisch worked well in relief surrendering 3 runs on 3 hits and a pair of walks in her 2.2 innings in the circle.
Crogan and Green each tallied a pair of hits including home runs, while five other Peacocks reached base with a hit.

UIU scratched the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the frame when Brennan came home on a Crogan double giving the Peacocks an early 1-0 lead.
The Jennies rallied with four runs in the bottom of the second inning, but the Peacocks wouldn't let the momentum turn scoring six runs in the top of the third.
The big hits in the top of the third came on a two-run single off the bat of
Erin Drahozal and a grand slam from Williams. In the fourth inning,
Kaylee Frenette scored on a Brennan rbi-single giving UIU an 8-4 lead.
Central Missouri got one run back in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to pull within one, 8-7, but Upper Iowa was able to hold off the Jennies in the seventh and get the sweep on day two in Arkansas.
