Upper Iowa wrestling improved to 2-0 on the season with their second-straight victory in as many days in North Dakota. The No. 6 Peacocks defeated the Marauders of the University of Mary 28-6 in Bismarck, N.D. UIU took advantage of four major decisions within their eight wins in the dual.

Philip Ihde (125) and
Justin Folley (No. 4, 133) got the Peacocks off to a good start with a pair of major decisions to push Upper Iowa out to an early 8-0 lead. Ihde scored a pair of takedowns in the first period, but it was a takedown and four-point nearfall in the second that propelled the 125-pounder toward his 13-5 major. Folley secured a takedown in the first and added a second takedown in the second period with a quick two-point nearfall. Folley wore his opponent down in the third registering a pair of takedowns between an escape and a ride time point for a 12-3 major.

Ryan Schmalen (141) kept the momentum on UIU's side with a 5-2 win highlighted by first-period and third-period takedowns.
Chance Throndson (149) got on the mat for his first dual action as a Peacock and provided a 7-5 sudden victory over Devin Steidler. Throndson trailed 4-3 heading into the final period, but scored a reversal to force extra time. The redshirt freshman recorded a takedown in the sudden victory period to get the win.
Mac Spotts (157) made it five in a row for UIU when he added an 8-3 win to UIU's results powered by a big second period in which he recorded a reversal and a four-point nearfall.

UMary picked up wins at 165 when Dante Springsteen defeated UIU's
Brock Benitz (No. 4) by a 6-1 count and Austin Eichmann edged out UIU's
Dalton Nelson 2-1 in the 174-pound match.

Dalton Hahn (184, No. 11) and
Nick Baumler (197, No. 1) gave Upper Iowa full control of the match again posting two more major decisions. Hahn won his match over Grant Litke 10-1 after scoring three takedowns and a reversal. Baumler topped Gerardo Jaime 10-2 fueled by four takedowns including a pair in the final frame.

Triston Westerlund closed out the dual with a 3-1 victory at heavyweight. Westerlund scored a takedown in the first period and added his escape in the third frame gave him all the breathing room he needed to get the win.

Upper Iowa will host their first action of the season in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium when NSIC wrestling-foe Southwest Minnesota State University comes to Fayette. The dual is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12.
