Upper Iowa climbs into a four-way tie for 7th place in NSIC standings following the win and other results from around the Northern Sun. The Peacocks are tied with (RV) Minnesota State University-Mankato, Augustana University, and No. 15 Southwest Minnesota State University at 8-6 in the conference, just one game behind Winona State and No. 12 Wayne State College who have both gone 9-5 against NSIC opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED…
  • The teams battled back-and-forth in the first set the way anyone would expect two of the top teams in the nation to do. The nail-biting frame was tied on 19 occasions, had 10 lead changes, and saw a combined total of four set-points fought off before an WSU attack error and Kaitlin Niedert kill finished the set with the Peacocks ahead 29-27.
  • Winona State was the first team to claim a lead larger than two points with an early 4-1 advantage in the second set, but the Peacocks pushed back in front with an 8-1 run fueled by three aces, two blocks and a pair of kills. The Warriors crawled their way back to a one-point deficit at 11-10, but Upper Iowa created breathing room with four unanswered points and was able to maintain the advantage the rest of the way.
  • In similar fashion to the second set, Winona State got out to an early lead just to see the Peacocks swipe it away with an 8-1 spurt. Trailing 9-7, the home team pieced together a rally highlighted by a trio of kills from Anna Winter and a Charisma Herr ace to capture a 15-10 lead. The Warriors weren't ready to go home, though, as the visitors once again cut the deficit to just one score, 18-17. The teams traded four points each to bring the score to 22-21 UIU, and the Peacocks clinched the sweep with three of the last four points thanks to kills by Sarah Johnson and Anna Winter as well as service error by the Warriors.

PEACOCKS OF THE GAME...
  • Anna Winter knocked down five kills in the first frame and six in both the second and third sets to finish the night with a game-high 17 kills (5.7/set). Winter committed just one error in 39 swings (.410) and contributed five digs, three aces, and two blocks.
  • Haley Weepie dug up a match-high 18 balls (6.0/set) and added two assists and an ace
  • Carlee Ketchum dished out a game-high 42 assists (14.0/set), turned half of her attack attempts into points (3-6), and served up three aces
  • Claire Milnes tallied a game-high three blocks (1 solo) while hitting a team-best .556 with six kills and one error in nine attempts

STATS OF THE GAME...
  • Although they were small margins, Upper Iowa finished with an advantage in every major category including hitting percentage (.316-.259), kills (49-45), digs (48-45), assists (48-44), aces (9-6), and blocks (5-3).
  • In the second frame alone, Upper Iowa hit .406 as a unit and scored seven points off the block (4) and serve (3).
  • In the nail biter first set, the score was tied on 19 occasions and saw 10 lead changes with neither team leading by more than two points.
  • The Peacocks hit above .300 for the fifth time against an NSIC foe.
