PEACOCK STORYLINES...
3/4'S FULL: The Peacocks have one three-fourths of their games so far this season, as they are off to a 6-2 start. Included in that first eight games was a 4-0 start, the first in UIU's NCAA Division II history. Upper Iowa is coming off a 2-2 split at the FHSU Crossover, with wins over Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State.
IN THE CIRCLE: Through six games in the circle, the Peacock pitching staff has put together a 2.42 earned run average, ranking fourth in the Northern Sun Conference. UIU together has two shutouts on the year; in comparison, 12 other NSIC schools have 3 combined.
Jaclyn Thompson is 3-0 with a 1.15 ERA in 24.1 innings of work. Her miniscule ERA ranks eighth in the league, while her .149 opposing batting average is third-best amongst conference pitchers. Her three complete games tie for third in the league as well.
LUCKY NUMBER SIX: The number six has been a good-luck charm for the Peacocks so far this season. Through eight games, the team is 4-0 when scoring at least six runs in a game. UIU is also a perfect 6-0 when leading after six innings in 2018, with their stellar late-game pitching to close down games at the end.
PEACOCK SLUGGERS: Last season, Upper Iowa slugged just .371 as a unit on offense. However, 2018 is off to a great start in that category. The team is slugging .490, and are led by
Julia Buffington's .762 percentage. Four of her eight hits are of the extra-base variety (2 doubles, 2 home runs), and she has tallied 16 total bases.
Katie Crogan's .654 slugging percentage is built on a team-leading four doubles and a triple, while
Jordyn Brennan has a double and a homer for a .714 slugging percentage.
