This Week in Peacock Volleyball… Upper Iowa is prepping for another full week of Northern Sun Conference action including a pair of match ups against nationally-ranked opponents.  The Peacocks will host the #9 Warriors of Winona State University in a Tuesday night tilt on Prochaska Court.  UIU will then head to Minnesota for matches against the #2 Bulldogs of the University of Minnesota Duluth on Friday night and the Huskies of St. Cloud State University on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Cream of the Crop… The Northern Sun Conference is the top conference in all of NCAA Division II when it comes to volleyball.  There are currently seven NSIC members in the latest AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll and all seven are in the top fourteen.  The Northern Sun teams in the top 25 are #1 Concordia-St. Paul, #2 Minnesota Duluth, #4 Wayne State, #5 Southwest Minnesota State, #9 Winona State, #11 Northern State and #14 Augustana.  Upper Iowa has 9 of their 20 conference tilts scheduled against these seven ranked opponents.

Last Week for the Peacocks… Upper Iowa opened the week with a three-set win over Waldorf in the team's first home match and final non-conference game of the season.  The Peacocks were competitive with the #1 and undefeated Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday in the NSIC opener, but lost in three, and followed the match with a 3-0 loss at the hands of the Mavericks of Minnesota State on Saturday in Mankato, Minn. Defensively, the Peacocks held their opponents to a .196 hitting percentage on the week.  Freshman Anna Winter tallied 17 kills and added 10 digs in the three matches to lead the offense, while Lauren Wombles and Alisha VanderWoude each knocked down 16 kills, and Chelsea Berry had 15. Ashley Larson and Carlee Ketchum led the back line with 28 and 27 digs, respectively, and Malissa LeClaire and Ketchum paced the UIU attack with 41 and 32 assists.

Scouting the #9 Warriors… Winona State suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday at the hands of #1 Concordia-St. Paul.  The Warriors had won their first 10 matches of the season including a 3-0 sweep of Minnesota State on Thursday night. The 10-0 start was the second best in school history, two shy of the 12-0 start by the 1987 squad.  Lauren Kudronowicz hit .571 last week and tied for the team lead with 3.17 kills per set with Taylor Goar, who added four aces from the service line.

Scouting the #2 Bulldogs… Minnesota Duluth opened the NSIC season with a pair of sweeps over Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State to improve to 10-0 overall.  The Bulldogs outhit UMC .364 to .090 and BSU .385 to -.022. UMD has held its opponent under a .100 attack percentage in six of ten matches. The Bulldogs have won 22 straight sets dating back to Sept. 3 against Ferris State.
