THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOFTBALL
Â
Upper Iowa (31-13, 17-5) finishes the regular season with a trio of doubleheaders on the road. The Peacocks were originally scheduled to take on the Wayne State Wildcats at home on Wednesday, but weather conditions in Fayette forced the games to first be moved to Thursday, then a location change to Wayne, Neb. UIU wraps up the season at Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls over the weekend.
Â
KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER
Â
1Â Â Â RECORD BREAKING SEASON: For the first time in UIU softball history, the Peacocks have reached the 30-win mark in a season. The previous record for single-season wins was 28, set by the 2013 team, when the current senior class were freshmen. This year's senior class is also the winningest class in school history, earning 102 wins in their four years.
Â
2Â Â Â HOME RUN RACE: Both
Jacqueline Flood and
Erica Kirgan mashed home runs last weekend and continue to be tied for the Upper Iowa career record with 27 long balls each.
Â
3Â Â Â TWO TRUE NO. 1'S:Â Upper Iowa has had the benefit of having two aces in the circle this season with
Jacqueline Flood and
Brooke Redmond. Both pitchers have matched the UIU record with 15 wins this season, while Flood is third in the NSIC with a 1.38 conference ERA and Redmond is right behind her in fourth with a 1.64 ERA in conference games.
Â
4Â Â Â Â IT'S BEEN A GOOD APRIL: The month of April has been particularly good for a pair of Peacocks.
Riley Kruel is hitting a team-high .438 (21-48) over the 14 games this month, while
Sammy Garrett isn't far behind at .429 (15-35). Both have 12 runs scored and Garrett has added 13 RBI, while Kruel has 7 runs batted in.
