THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOFTBALLÂ
Upper Iowa (5-7) finally gets back outdoors as they head to Clermont, Fla. for the NTC Spring Games over UIU's spring break. The Peacocks will play 10 games against eight different schools over the six day trip, starting with a game against Kutztown on Sunday, Mar. 6, and culminating with a meeting against Ashland on Friday, Mar. 11.
Â
KEY NOTES TO CONSIDERÂ
1      GETTING BACK OUTSIDE: Upper Iowa has spent the last two tournaments in domes at the WSU Dome Tournament and Lewis Flyer Dome Invitational. The Peacocks started the year 3-1 when playing outside at the Arkansas-Monticello 8-State Classic, then went 2-6 at the games held indoors. Â
Â
2Â Â Â Â Â Â ABOVE .500: Following the spring break trip the Peacocks will head right into NSIC games. With a successful trip, UIU could begin conference play above .500 for the first time since the 2013 season when Upper Iowa finished the year 28-16.
Â
3Â Â Â Â Â ON THE BOARD EARLY:Â The Peacocks have gotten out to early leads all season long. UIU has outscored their opponents in the first inning 12-9 and in the second inning 11-3. Upper Iowa has picked up all five of their wins when scoring first, but is 0-4 when the opponent scratches the scoreboard first.
Â
4 Â Â Â HOME RUN RECORD: UIU has a pair of Peacocks looking to break the Upper Iowa career home run record.
Erica Kirgan is currently tied for the most in school history with 24, while
Jacqueline Flood is just two behind her at 22 career bombs. The record was set at 24 by UIU Athletic Hall of Famer Chyanne Kleve.
