Tom Shea Inducted into Peru State College Athletic Hall of Fame

Peacock Head Football Coach Tom Shea was inducted into the Peru State College Athletic Hall of Fame

Upper Iowa Head Football Coach Tom Shea had quite a weekend from a Hall of Fame banquet on Friday night to a near-upset of #25 Minnesota Duluth on the road on Saturday night.  Peru State College inducted four individuals and one team into their Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday night, Sept. 25. Shea and the other inductees made up the 27th group to be inducted into the College's Hall of Fame.

8515Tom Shea (1988-90) served as the coach of the 1990 Peru State NAIA National Championship Football team – the only Bobcat football team to reach that pinnacle of success. After his team won the national championship, Shea was named the NAIA Coach of the Year. During his three years as the Bobcat head coach, Shea was 35-17-1 and Peru State twice won the Nebraska College Conference. In addition, Peru State was also in the playoffs two times. Shea is known as a head coach who can transform programs and reestablish them as winners as he has done so at several colleges and universities.

Upper Iowa University has posted a 6-5 record over the last two season (2013,2014) for the first time since 1963 and 1964 when the team won 6 and 8 games in consecutive years.  UIU is currently 3-1 after #25 Minnesota Duluth rallied late in the fourth quarter of Saturday's game to hand the Peacocks their first loss of the season, 28-24.

In addition to Shea, Peru State inducted Cory Catterson, Kristi (Deleeuw) Herman, Ron Kelley, and the 1996 softball team.

The Peru State College Athletic Hall of Fame was established when the Al Wheeler Activity Center was dedicated in 1986. The purpose of the PSC Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize, honor and preserve the memory of those individuals and teams whose contributions have greatly enhanced Nebraska's first college.

The Hall of Fame gallery resides in the lobby of the Wheeler Center, named after the first inductee into the Hall of Fame, Alfred G. Wheeler.  A candidate can be nominated in one of four categories:  coach, player, team, or meritorious service.
