Brooks McKowen recently announced that assistant basketball coach
Matt Fletcher has been promoted to Associate Head Coach. Over two seasons on the Peacocks staff, Fletcher has helped Upper Iowa to a 33-27 record and a 25-19 mark in NSIC play, as well as coached a pair of All-NSIC performers and an all-region player.
"I am happy to announce Matt's promotion within our program," said McKowen. "His ability to recruit and great work ethic is second to none in our profession. He has a great basketball mind and is very passionate about our student athletes. Coach Fletcher has been a major factor in the building of our program and we are extremely lucky to have him as part of Upper Iowa Basketball."Â
Fletcher enters his third season as the assistant coach for the men's basketball team at Upper Iowa after joining the staff prior to the 2013-14 academic year. Fletcher joined the Peacock coaching staff after serving as the head boy's basketball coach at Anoka High School in Anoka, Minnesota in 2012-13.
Prior to his year at Anoka, the former Northern Sun Conference standout spent three seasons at Kentucky Wesleyan College as the assistant coach helping to lead the Panthers to a berth in the Sweet Sixteen of NCAA Division II's Championships. He also served as the head boy's basketball coach at South St. Paul High School for two seasons.
Fletcher, a native of North Branch, Minn., produced a stellar four-year career at Southwest Minnesota State University. The three-time All-NSIC performer holds the career records at SMSU for three-pointers made (305), free throw percentage (85.3%), and best three-point percentage at (44.8%). He also set the Mustang single-season records for three-point shooting (48.0%) as a sophomore and free throw shooting (91.3%) as a junior. Fletcher finished as the sixth leading scorer in SMSU history with 1,375 career points. He also ranks seventh in games played with 118 and starts with 110, ninth in assists with 236 and 10th in field goals made with 436.
