KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER

1       HOME RUN DERBY:
Upper Iowa nearly doubled its season home run total over the last six games, bringing their season total to 16 with seven bombs last week. Erica Kirgan led the way with three last week, bringing her 2015 total to six after she led the team with 11 last year.

2      EXTRA BASES: Junior Jacqueline Flood continued to tear up opponents pitching last week with a .526 batting average, .550 on-base percentage and a 1.105 slugging percentage. The Mount Vernon, Ill. native had 10 hits, four of which were doubles, two were triples and one was a round-tripper. She now leads the team for the season in batting average, slugging, on-base percentage, runs scored, hits, doubles, triples and total bases.

3       HOME RUN HERMANAS:  The Sluggin' Sisters were at it again last weekend, with each hitting a home run in game two of the doubleheader against the Huskies of St. Cloud State. Katie Sammons hit a three-run shot in the bottom of the first to set the table for the Peacocks in the game. Kirgan hit a solo dinger in the bottom of the fifth to give UIU an eight-run lead and end the game.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS

vs. MINNESOTA STATE: The Mavericks are 24-14 so far this season with a 9-3 record in NSIC play. After starting the season 0-4 at the 8-State Classic in Bentonville, Ark., MSU has picked it up, including winning five straight. Minnesota State features the Preseason NSIC Pitcher of the Year in Coley Ries (12-11, 2.32 ERA), but also have Libby Bemis (12-2, 2.68 ERA) tossing well from the circle.

vs. MINOT STATE: The Beavers are 24-10 overall and 5-6 in conference. MiSU had two big winning streaks during non-conference play, winning eight in a row at the end of February and beginning of March, and then winning nine in a row over spring break in Florida. Minot State sophomore outfielder Jordan Grant has been one of the best hitters in the NSIC this year, ranking second in the conference in batting average (.504), runs scored (42) and hits (63).

vs. U-MARY: The Marauders are 16-21 this season and hold a 5-6 record in the NSIC, but have won four of their last six conference games. U-Mary has seven hitters hitting above .300 this season, led by junior outfielder Alana Norman who has a .469 batting average.
