THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOFTBALLUpper Iowa will head south for Spring Break to play a trio of doubleheaders in Missouri and Kansas. The first pair of games are set for Sunday, Mar. 8, against the Cardinals of William Jewell who are 3-1 this season, but haven't played a game since Valentines Day because of cancellations. The second set of games will be played the next day in Topeka, Kan., when the Peacocks take on the Washburn Ichabods who are 6-3 so far this year. Finally, UIU will take on Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday, Mar. 11, in Maryville, Mo. The Bearcats are 2-4 this season, having had six games cancelled so far this season.

Jacqueline Flood has been the Peacocks best hitter this season, leading the team in batting average (.464), hits (13), runs scored (6), triples (1), home runs (2), RBIs (10), total bases (22) and slugging percentage (.786)

2Â Â Â Â Â Â SLAMMING SAMMY GARRETT: Â Redshirt freshman outfielder
Sammy Garrett has bounced back from a knee injury last season to be one of the top hitters for UIU in 2015. Garrett has seven hits in 19 at-bats, including two doubles. She has knocked in five runs and scored three herself. She has drawn a team-high six walks and leads the Peacocks in on-base percentage at .520. Garrett is also perfect on the basepaths, stealing three bases.

3      FINDING THE BATS: Over the last five games, the Peacocks have raised their batting average by 56 points. Upper Iowa hit .242 over the first four games at the 8-State Classic in Bentonville, Ark
. UIU also has raised their runs per game average to nearly four after averaging two runs per game over the first four.Â
LAST SPRING BREAKLast year over Spring Break, the Peacocks headed west to Hawaii for three doubleheaders against Chaminade University, Hawaii Pacific and BYU-Hawaii. The Peacocks came home with a 3-3 record, splitting with Chaminade, sweeping Hawaii Pacific and dropping both games to BYU-Hawaii.Â
