GAME NOTES:Â UPPER IOWAÂ ||Â NORTHERN SUN ||Â APPLE MARKET CLASSIC HOMEPAGEÂ Â Â
KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER
1 Â Â Â "FLOOD"ING THE STAT BOOK:Â Junior pitcher/infielder
Jacqueline Flood has been the Peacocks best hitter this season, leading the team in batting average (.378), hits (17), runs scored (7), triples (1), home runs (2), RBIs (11), total bases (27) and slugging percentage (.667).Â
Â
2Â Â Â Â Â Â PRACTICING PATIENCE: Â Three Peacock hitters have shown extraordinary patience this season, drawing walks in more than 10% of their at-bats. Freshman outfielder
Sammy Garrett leads the team, drawing walks in over 14% (6/42) of her plate appearances. Just behind her is senior shortstop
Katie Mnichowicz, who has taken a free pass in 12% (6/50) of her chances at the plate, up from just under 7% (13/187) last season. Finally, junior third baseman
Lauren Marlinghaus has walked in nearly 11% (6/45) PAs after leading the team in that category last season at 7.5% (12/159).Â
Â
3Â Â Â Â Â Â ROLLING WITH REDMOND:Â Despite the Peacocks recent losing streak, junior pitcher
Brooke Redmond has been a bright spot. The Basehor, Kan., native ranks among the Northern Sun's best in multiple pitching categories. Redmond is 16th in ERA at 3.04, 12th in innings pitched with 46, 16th in strikeouts with 33 and has the 5th best walk rate, allowing 1.22 walks per game.
AGAINST THE MIAASo far this season, the Peacocks haven't fared well against MIAA foes, combining for a 0-5 record. The Peacocks recently dropped two against both Washburn and Northwest Missouri State, while also losing to Southwest Baptist earlier this season at the 8-State Classic. UIU will, however, have a chance at redemption against the MIAA when Upper Iowa plays against the conference's top four teams: Emporia State, Pittsburg State, Central Missouri and Central Oklahoma.
