Box Score 2 On a cold morning, the Peacocks got the season off to a hot start.
After surrendering a run in the top of the first, UIU put three on the board with a
Jacqueline Flood RBI single, followed two batters later by a
Tara Duran two RBI double.
That would prove to be more than enough support for
Brooke Redmond, who scattered eight hits and worked her way out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth.
With one out in the top of the fourth, the Blossoms hit back-to-back singles before a fielder's choice moved the runners to second and third. After a walk to load the bases, Redmond got
Blossom right fielder Rebecca Powers to ground out to second base to end the threat.
Upper Iowa responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and both teams exchanged runs in the fifth to cap the scoring.
Game two saw the script flipped on the Peacocks. Arkansas-Monticello put up five runs in the first two innings and UIU couldn't overcome the early deficit.
Upper Iowa returns to the field tomorrow for day two of the 8-State Classic. The Peacocks will play Southwest Baptist at 9 a.m. and Henderson State at 3 p.m.
