THIS WEEKEND IN MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Peacocks finish the 2015 calendar year with a pair of games this week. UIU starts the week by hosting the UW-Parkside Rangers on Tuesday at 7 p.m., followed by a trip to Winona, Minn, on Saturday to play the Winona State Warriors at 4 p.m.

Tuesday night's game will be Pajama Night and one student in attendance will have a chance to win $500 by making a layup, free throw, three-pointer and a half-court shot in 30 seconds. In order to be eligible, students must sign up before tip-off and the name will be drawn during the final media timeout of the second half. Pete Claus will also be in attendance, handing out candy canes and treats.

NOTES FROM LAST WEEKEND

On Friday night, Upper Iowa fell to the hot-shooting Minnesota State Mavericks, 97-75. MSU shot 51.9% (28-54) from the floor and 55% (11-20) from three point range to keep the Peacocks at an arm's length for most of the evening. Then on Friday, the Peacocks snapped a three-game skid and reached the century mark for the first time this season with a commanding 103-80 win over the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears on Saturday night in St. Paul, Minnesota.  The biggest difference in the game was the three-point shooting as the Peacocks hit a season-high 15 trifectas on 26 attempts (57.7%), compared to the Golden Bears going 6-of-14, with all six coming in the second half.

KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER

1       A CENTURY IN THE MAKING: Upper Iowa enters its 100th year of men's basketball with the start of the 2015-16 season and third year under the tutelage of Brooks McKowen. 2       CANDY KANE: UIU freshman Elliot Kane caught fire against Concordia-St. Paul, hitting 7 threes against the Golden Bears. The Champlin, Minnesota native scored a career-high 21 points.

3       HITTING THE FREEBIES: Upper Iowa hit 76.4% (42-55) of its free throws over the weekend, knocking down over 75% in both games, marking just the second and third times they have done that this season. In games that the Peacocks have made more free throws than the opponent, UIU is 4-1.

4       LIVING IN THE 90's: When the Peacocks or their opponents hit the 90 point threshold this season, that team is undefeated. Upper Iowa is 2-0 when scoring 90, while going 0-2 when their opponent hits 90.
