Men's Basketball Hosts Two Games, Including Conference Opener

UIU welcomes the Bellevue Bruins into Dorman Gymnasium on Tuesday night for a non-conference clash at 7 p.m. Then following the Thanksgiving break, Upper Iowa opens the conference schedule when they host the Winona State Warriors on Saturday at 6 p.m.

THIS WEEKEND IN MEN'S BASKETBALL
 
The Peacocks host a pair of games at home, including the conference opener over the weekend. UIU welcomes the Bellevue Bruins into Dorman Gymnasium on Tuesday night for a non-conference clash at 7 p.m. Then following the Thanksgiving break, Upper Iowa opens the conference schedule when they host the Winona State Warriors on Saturday at 6 p.m.
 
NOTES FROM LAST WEEKEND
 
UIU defeated Quincy 93-81 on Wednesday, using a 15-0 run to start the second half and take control of the game. On Saturday, the Peacocks again used a big second half run take the lead against Truman State, but came up short and lost to the Bulldogs 84-80.
 
KEY NOTES TO CONSIDER
 
1       A CENTURY IN THE MAKING: Upper Iowa enters its 100th year of men's basketball with the start of the 2015-16 season and third year under the tutelage of Brooks McKowen. The Fairbank, Iowa native was named the 18th head coach in Peacock men's basketball history prior to the 2013-14 season and holds a 36-31 record at UIU.  
 
2       CARSON ON THE BOARDS: UIU sophomore Carson Parker leads the team in offensive (8), defensive (32) and total rebounds (40) this season. The 6-3 guard has three games this season of 8 or more rebounds and has nearly doubled his per game average from last season (2.9).
 
3       ROTH IS ROLLIN': Jimmy Roth, NSIC Preseason Player to Watch for the Peacocks, has picked up his play over the last five games, averaging 14.4 points and 5.4 rebounds. Roth earned NSIC South Player of the Week on Nov. 19 after averaging 15.5 points and 6.0 rebounds at the Hillyard Tip-Off Classic in St. Joseph, Mo.
 
4       HOME COOKIN': Despite the loss in the home opener, the Peacocks are 19-10 in Dorman Gymnasium during Head Coach Brooks McKowen's two-plus years at the helm.
 
THE SERIES
 
vs BELLEVUE: The Peacocks dropped their only meeting with the Bruins 81-75 at the SMSU Invite in 2009.
 
vs WINONA STATE: The Warriors hold the all-time series 20-3, including a 9-2 mark in Dorman Gymnasium. The Peacocks won the meeting last year in Fayette, 90-76.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
 
BELLEVUE: The Bruins (6-2) are ranked eighth in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll and were tabbed as the favorite in the North Star Athletic Association Preseason Coaches' Poll. Bellevue finished the 2014-15 season with an overall record of 28-6 and made their 13th-straight appearance in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament.
 
WINONA STATE: Under new leadership for the first time in 18 years, head coach Mike Eisner leads a Warrior team that returns all but one player and was picked to finish fourth in the NSIC and third in the South Division. Winona State (1-3) won its opener against Wisconsin Lutheran, but will come to Fayette on a three-game losing skid from a trip out to California where the Warriors lost to UC San Diego (77-60), Cal State San Bernadino (74-70), and Cal Poly Pomona (77-50).
