Â
THIS WEEKEND IN MEN'S BASKETBALL Â
The Peacocks (10-6, 6-4 NSIC) will attempt to build on last weekend's scoring outburst when they host Minot State and Mary. The Beavers are 9-7 to start the year and 4-6 in conference, but have dropped three of four to start the New Year. The Marauders are 4-10 overall and 2-8 in NSIC play, but are coming off their biggest win of the year over Northern State. This weekend's games are the only scheduled games for UIU against Minot State and Mary this season.
NEON NIGHTThe Peacocks will be hosting a Neon Night on Saturday when UIU plays host to the University of Mary. In an effort to raise awareness for the Upper Iowa Dance Marathon, which will take place on April 25, 2015, all fans in attendance are asked to wear neon. The purpose of the Dance Marathon is to celebrate the work that the Iowa Children's Hospital does in the lives of countless children and help support its continuation through fundraising efforts on local campuses. KEY NOTES TO CONSIDERÂ
1 Â Â HOME COOKING:Â The Peacocks are 7-1 at home this season and 15-6 overall at home under Head Coach Brooks McKowen. After displaying their high scoring offense last weekend, the Peacocks are now averaging 93.75 points per game at home compared to 76.75 points in games away from Dorman. When UIU scores more than 80 points, the Peacocks are 9-2. When scoring 90-plus points, UIU is 5-0.Â
2 Â Â WISH "GRANT"ED:Â Senior guard Grant Lang has found his range, scoring 23 and 22 points in the last two games, respectively. During that span, Lang has shot 72.7% (16-of-22) from the floor and 66.7% (10-of-15) from behind the three point arc. In the four games prior to this past weekend, Lang was in a bit of a cold streak, averaging just 7 points per game. On the year, Lang averages 12 points per game and is shooting 48.1% from three point range.Â
3 Â Â SHOOTING FOR THE WIN:Â UIU has shot above 50% in a game three times this season and all three times the Peacocks were victorious. Two of those three games occurred last weekend, when Upper Iowa shot 56.5% (39-of-69) against Southwest Minnesota State and 51.9% (27-of-52) against Sioux Falls. When opponents shoot above 50%, UIU is just 1-3.4 Â Â ON A ROLL:Â For the first time in recent history, Upper Iowa scored 100 points in back-to-back games. The Peacocks now lead the NSIC in scoring average at 85.2 points per game, edging Augustana by 0.3 and MSU Moorhead by 0.7 points per game. Minnesota State is the only other team to average over 80 points per game at 81.5.
THE SERIES...VS MINOT STATE:Â (4-0) - The Peacocks have won every meeting in the brief history with the Beavers, including two wins in Dorman Gymnasium. UIU also beat Minot State once in the MSU Dome in Minot, N.D. and once in Winona, Minn.Â
VS MARY: (6-4) - UIU leads the overall series, including holding a 4-1 record against the Marauders in games played in Fayette. The Peacocks have won three straight against Mary and four of the last five, including two games in Bismarck, N.D.Â
