The #17 Peacock wrestling program continued their run through the gauntlet of the NWCA National Duals on Saturday with a semifinal match against #1 Notre Dame College this morning. Upper Iowa won the first bout of the dual, but the Falcons won seven straight decisions to push out to a 22-3 lead. UIU earned the final two wins of the dual to set the final count at 22-12.
Upper Iowa then met #7 St. Cloud State University in the third place match less than half an hour after the semifinal loss. The Huskies claimed eight wins, while Upper Iowa won a pair of bouts to drop the decision 26-6. The loss finished UIU's run in Fort Wayne, Ind. with a fourth place finish. The Peacocks have now placed in the top eight in seven of the last eight years at the National Duals.
On day one, Upper Iowa faced the fourth-seeded Lakers of Mercyhurst University, ranked #5, in the tournament's first round and came up with a huge 33-8 victory. UIU backed up the win with an 18-15 win over the fifth-seeded Bearcats of McKendree University, ranked #6.
The Peacocks will now enter Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition with a dual in Moorhead, Minn. against the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m.
