Upper Iowa Announces Two Changes to Weekend Schedule

The Peacocks have canceled their doubleheaders against Winona State today and have bumped up their weekend series with UMC and BSU to Friday and Saturday, both due to weather.

The Upper Iowa softball team and Head Coach Amanda Bradberry have announced they have canceled their series with Winona State today due to rain in the forecast and have switched the weekend schedule to Friday/Saturday doubleheaders also due to inclement weather. With the change, the Peacocks will now host Minnesota Crookston on Friday with game one of the twin bill starting at 3 p.m.

That means Upper Iowa will welcome the Beavers of Bemidji State to Fayette on Saturday, April 26 as part of the team's senior-day festivities. The Peacocks and Beavers will begin their NSIC doubleheader at noon inside the Eischeid Softball Complex. UIU will honor its three seniors – Kayla Bergman, Brooklyn Koranda and Adrienna Olson – during intermission of the BSU doubleheader.

Live stats and a live video feed will be available for each of the four games this Friday and Saturday as the Peacocks host UMC and BSU. Both of those are free of charge. Please see below for further schedule details.

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOFTBALL... The Peacocks have shifted their weekend schedule around due to weather. Upper Iowa has canceled its series with Winona State today and has bumped the weekend schedule to Friday/Saturday doubleheaders. On Saturday, UIU will honor its seniors during intermission of the Bemidji State doubleheader, which is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.

THE SERIES... Upper Iowa holds a firm lead in its series with Minnesota Crookston, 11-3, including a sweep at home last year. At the same time, the Peacocks hold an impressive 13-0 record against the Beavers of Bemidji State since the teams first met back in 2006. The last time UIU hosted BSU and UMC, the Peacocks scored a program-best 59 combined runs in those four games.

NOW WALK IT OFF... Upper Iowa played inspired softball on Tuesday as the team hosted 17th-ranked Augustana College for an NSIC doubleheader. The team trailed the Vikings, 5-1, in the second inning of game one before battling back to tie it at 5-all in the fourth. Augie was held scoreless for four straight innings, but added the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh to steal the first of two games, 6-5. The Peacocks' determination didn't falter though. UIU stormed back in game two thanks to a strong dominant defensive performance. Southpaw Brooke Redmond was in full control as she went the distance against a very powerful Viking lineup. The sophomore struck out seven, allowed just five hits and earned the shutout from the rubber. The offense took a bit longer to come around, but UIU needed just one pitch to decide the outcome. Lauren Marlinghaus connected on a walk-off home run in the seventh to put UIU out in front for good, 1-0. The jack was her fifth homer of the season and first walk-off of her UIU career. SENIOR DAY... Saturday's doubleheader with Bemidji State University has special significance for three seniors, who will be playing in their final home games of their career. Upper Iowa will honor Kayla Bergman, Adrienna Olson and Brooklyn Koranda during intermission of that twin bill.

ADRIENNA OLSON... Adrienna "Missy" Olson has started more games (175) and has more assists (303) than any Peacock since UIU transitioned to NCAA Division II play before the 2006 season. In all, Olson has played in 177 games while making 175 starts. She has racked up 469 at-bats, while registering 135 hits for a .289 career batting average. Olson has also earned 19 doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 49 RBIs and she has stolen 23 bases. A native of St. Olaf, Iowa, Olson will graduate this spring with a degree in conservation management.

BROOKLYN KORANDA... Brooklyn Koranda is currently second in UIU history with 248 career innings pitched and 52 career starts. Koranda has made 91 appearances in the pitching circle for the Peacocks and owns a career ERA of 5.00. Her 134 career strikeouts ranks fifth all-time at UIU, while her 10 career wins is tied for fifth in the record books. Making the most of her relief appearances, Koranda has a UIU-record 4 career saves. A native of Maquoketa, Iowa, Koranda will graduate this spring with a degree in elementary education.

KAYLA BERGMAN... Kayla Bergman currently ranks tenth in UIU history with 124 games played in a career. Bergman, who has 48 starts under her belt, has recorded 123 at-bats, earned 20 hits, two doubles, 1 triple and has earned five runs batted in. Bergman has also scored 37 runs in her career, including seven this season. On the base-paths, Bergman has successfully stolen a base 12 out of 16 attempts. A native of Sumner, Iowa, Bergman will graduate this spring with a degree in management.
