Recap

With their Hawai'i trip coming to an end, the Upper Iowa softball team looked to extend a two-game on Thursday afternoon as the team took on the Seasiders of BYU-Hawai'i. However, the Peacocks - who return to Fayette this weekend - finished their trip to the Aloha state on a sour note. Despite earning wins in half of their six matchups, UIU was swept by the Seasiders of BYU-Hawai'i in their mid-week matchup falling in game one, 2-0 and dropping game two, 2-1.

Game One Recap

Strong pitching from the Seasiders and untimely hits from Upper Iowa proved to be a lethal combination for the home team. Despite earning three runners on the bags in the first two innings, the Peacocks could muster enough offense to bring them home. BYU-Hawai'i's Gabby Hawkins allowed just four UIU hits in the game, while striking out seven and throwing 69 strikes in 93 attempts.

Hawkins stranded two Peacocks in the first, another in the second and another in the fourth before her offense provided a little run support. A run in the fourth and another in the sixth proved to be the difference as BYU-Hawai'i clinched the 2-0 victory at home.

Game Two Recap

The Seasiders didn't waste a lot of time in game two to get on the board. BYU-Hawai'i centerfielder Jassey Walker led off the bottom of the first with a single. She proceeded to steal second before advancing to third during the next at-bat. Makaela Williamson brought Walker home with a sac-fly to centerfield to put the home team on the board first.

In the third, the Seasiders added to their lead thanks to a handful of Peacock mistakes. Whitney Gustafson reached on an infield error before moving to second on a sac-bunt. Gustafson then scored on two passed balls as BYU-Hawai'i took a 2-0 lead heading into the fourth.

UIU managed its only run on the day in the sixth inning thanks to a lead-off single to right field from Shelby Crist. Crist moved to second base on a groundout before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Lauren Marlinghaus then put the Peacocks on the board as she laid down a bunt. Crist scored as Marlinghaus was thrown out at second.

The visitors' run ended there though as the Seasiders wrapped up the victory, 2-1.
