THIS WEEKEND IN MEN'S BASKETBALL... The Peacocks will host their first game of the new year this Friday night as UIU welcomes Minot State (6-6, 2-6 NSIC) to Fayette for an 8 p.m. tip-off. A night later, the Peacocks will face the University of Mary (2-11, 0-8 NSIC) at 6 p.m. During halftime of the games, the Peacock Posse will entertain the crowd with a halftime performance. The Peacock Posse is made up of local K-through-8th grade athletes from the surrounding community who have been working with the Upper Iowa coaching staff since early November.

THE SERIES... UIU owns a 3-0 series record against Minot State, posting two wins last season over the Beavers including a 86-72 victory in the opening round of the 2012-13 NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament. On the flip side, the Peacocks and the Marauders have squared off a total of eleven times over the past seven seasons. Last season, the teams were even at five games apiece in the series, but UIU went into Bismark, North Dakota and stole a 67-63 victory - just their second win all-time in Bismark but their second consecutive win over the Marauders.

LEADING THE BEAVERS... E.J. Williams (16 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.5 spg), Samuel Johnson (13.3 ppg, 42% 3FG, 6.9 rpg, 5 blocks), Thomas Korf (9.9 ppg, 3 rpg), Dominique McDonald (9.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1 spg)

LEADING THE MARAUDERS... Marc Musungayi (10.9 ppg, 6 rpg, 1.3 bpg), Devan Douglas (9.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.5 apg, 0.9 spg), Damonta Henry (9.6 ppg, 35% 3FG, 2.2 rpg), Chris Mason (9.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.3 apg)

FOOD DRIVE... The Fayette County Food Shelf is in need of rebuilding its food supply from a fire that destroyed the business on December 31 and Upper Iowa University is lending a hand. Non-perishable food items or cash donations are being collected for the Fayette County Food Shelf through January 10 at the Office of Student Development and the President's Office and now Peacock fans can join in too. A drop-off station will be set up in the lobby of Dorman Gymnasium prior to this weekend's contests against Minot State University and the University of Mary. Any donations are much appreciated and will go directly to the Fayette County Food Shelf.

PEACOCKS LOOKING TO GET BACK ON TRACK... Upper Iowa dominated Friday night's NSIC cross-division battle with the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota Crookston last Friday night winning by a score of, 97-66. Twelve different Peacocks found the net with four scoring in double-figures. Josh Weeber led UIU with 19 points, while Grant Lang and Joey Woods combined for 28. The team connected on a season-high 13 three-pointers en route to an NSIC-best 97 points. It was a different story a night later against Bemidji State despite the Peacocks connecting on 13 trifectas again. BSU shot a red-hot 63-percent from the floor and owned a double-digit lead for the majority of the second half. UIU set a new season high with 11 steals and tied a season-high by forcing 20 BSU turnovers but the Beavers kept shooting. BSU finished the night with a 53-percent mark from downtown and sealed the 102-89 victory in Minnesota. The Peacocks will look to get back in the win column this Friday night as they host their first game of 2014 against Minot State at 8 p.m. inside Dorman Gym.

A SEASON OF HIGHS AND LOWS... The Peacocks set multiple season-highs this past weekend against two NSIC-North foes. At UMC on Friday, UIU set a new high for three-pointers with 13, tying that mark a night later against BSU. UIU gave up a season-high 102 points to the Beavers, but scored an NSIC-best 97 against UMC. The Peacocks also recorded 16 steals and forced 20 BSU turnovers on Saturday night - both record highs this year.

HALFWAY THERE... UIU guard Joey Woods is hitting 50-percent of his shots this season en route to a team-high 16 points per game. Despite falling to BSU by 13 points, Saturday's matchup with the Beavers marked the fourth time the Golden Gate High School product has dished out 7 assists in a game. Furthermore, Woods has shot at or over 50-percent in nine games this season and in seven of those he's added at least four assists.

CROSS-OVER DRIBBLE... For the second time this season, teams from the NSIC-North division are playing teams from the NSIC-South. This will be the only time the Peacocks will face Minot State and U-Mary in regular-season play.

LAST WEEK...
For the Beavers... Minot State played two different styles of basketball games on the first weekend of the 2014 season, but unfortunately the Beavers came out on the short end of both. On Friday, MISU nearly led the entire way, before Wayne State tied the game with less than 10 seconds and prevailed in overtime 74-70. Saturday, it was the Beavers turn to rally late, cutting a nearly 20 point Augustana College lead to just eight with three minutes to play but could not get close, falling 80-67. The Beavers' Chris East scored in double figures in both contests, hitting for a season-high 15 points against WSC, while Dominique McDonald also reached double figures both nights, and scored his season high against Wayne State with 14.

For the Marauders... U-Mary's Damonta Henry scored a career-high 25 points for the University of Mary in a 75-68 overtime loss to Augustana. The freshman guard was 5-of-7 behind the arc and made 9-of-14 shots overall. Henry also connected on both his free throw attempts and added three assists. The Chicago native averaged 12.5 points per game for the weekend after going scoreless on Saturday, while Devan Douglas led the Marauders with 11 points in a 66-57 loss to Wayne State College. The junior guard hit 5-of-7 shots and had two steals in the game. For the year Douglas is shooting 58.5 per cent from the field, the fifth best mark in the NSIC.
