This Weekend in Peacock Softball... The Peacocks, who began their week with a double header sweep over the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead on Monday and a split with the Golden Bears of Concordia University, St. Paul, will host a pair of NSIC twin bills this weekend.  On Saturday, the Peacocks will face off against the Cougars of the University of Sioux Falls at 2 p.m.  On Sunday, Upper Iowa will line up against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University at 1 p.m.

The Series... UIU has had only two battles with USF as the teams split their series last year. The Mustangs hold a 9-5 advantage in their series with the Peacocks since 2006.

On Deck... The Peacocks are scheduled to hit the road for their final three double headers of the 2013 regular season... Wednesday, Apr. 24, at Augustana College... Saturday, Apr. 27, at Bemidji State University... Sunday, Apr. 28, at the University of Minnesota Crookston.

“Hail” to the Chief... Over the past seven games, senior centerfielder Hailley Haning has totaled fourteen hits, eight runs batted in and six runs scored. Last year, the Heartland Community College transfer led her team with a .361 batting average. This year, she has racked up a team-high 38 hits on her way to a .491 slugging percentage, a .404 on-base percentage and a .358 hitting percentage.

You Say Good-bye and I Say “Anello”... Senior first baseman Rachael Anello said good-bye to a pair of homeruns in Monday’s double header versus MSU Moorhead.  The first blast was a line drive that shot over the fence in right before Anello took many steps out of the batter’s box and tied the first game of the day.  Her second homerun was a grand slam deep to centerfield that put the second game out of reach and marked her fourth long ball of the season.  She is slugging .594 this year.

Flash “Flood” Warning... Freshman designated player Jacqueline Flood reached base in all eight plate appearances versus the Dragons on Monday.  She went 6 for 6 at the dish and was hit twice.  Her hits included a double and five singles.  She earned wins from the pitching circle on Tuesday versus Concordia.

No Sleep Til “Brooklyn”... Junior pitcher Brooklyn Koranda earned her second win of the season in game two versus the Dragons on Monday.  The Maquoketa, Iowa native earned the victory with a complete game of five innings while allowing three runs, only one was earned, on six hits and four strikeouts.
