Game One Recap
The Huskies loaded the bases in the first inning but came away with only one run as the Peacock starter
Jenna Hermsen worked out of the jam. St. Cloud State added a second run in the third. Both runs came after the leadoff hitter reached base; first on a walk, then on a hit batsman.
Upper Iowa cut the lead in half in the fourth after
Katie Mnichowicz doubled to open the inning and was plated on a
Bailee Haberman single. In the fifth, a pair of walks and an infield single loaded the bases with two outs for UIU.
Kylee Knop hit a single down the right field line scoring two and pushing the home team into the lead.
The lead didn’t last long as St. Cloud State tied the game on a pair of singles around a stolen base with two outs in the top of the sixth.
Upper Iowa loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but came up empty as the game moved to extra innings.
St. Cloud State threatened in the eighth with runners on second and third with two outs, but reliever
Brooklyn Koranda and the defense worked out of the jam without surrendering any runs.
Erin Van Praag led off the bottom of the eighth with a double to the gap in right centerfield and moved to third on a sac bunt from
Tara Duran. The Huskies defense stopped UIU’s squeeze attempt and tagged Van Praag out at home for the second out and a strikeout ended the inning.
Upper Iowa won the game in the ninth inning. Haning opened the inning with a double to left center and after an intentional walk to Knop. The Husky defense stayed strong getting the lead runner out on a fielder’s choice, but
Rachael Anello singled to right center sending Knop across the plate and giving UIU the 4-3 victory.
Koranda (5-3) gets the win with two innings of relief allowing just one hit and one walk. Hermsen threw well for a no-decision allowing three runs on six hits in her seven innings of work. Haning led the team with three hits, while Knop added a pair.

Williams reached on a fielder’s choice to drive in the fourth run of the inning and give the Peacocks the 4-0 advantage heading into the fifth inning.
A walk and a single that was misplayed in the SCSU outfield allowed the Peacocks to put an unearned run on the board in the sixth inning extending their lead to 5-0.
The runs were more than enough as Knop cruised through her seven innings of work to improve to 7-12 with a complete game shutout. The senior allowed just three hits while striking out five Huskies. Haberman tallied two of the Peacocks’ six hits in the game.
