Game Two Recap
Peacocks loaded the bases in the third inning with no outs thanks to a
Whitney Williams walk and singles by
Katie Mnichowicz and
Hailley Haning. UMD did not allow a run to score recording two strikeouts around a force out at home.
An rbi-single with two outs in the fifth by Tyra Kerr gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead, but Upper Iowa would answer quickly. The Peacocks scored two runs in the fifth, highlighted by an rbi-double from
Bailee Haberman and a run-scoring single from
Kylee Knop. With a 2-1 lead, Upper Iowa added two more in the sixth after a pair of singles turned into a pair of runs when the Bulldog defense committed a pair of errors after the second hit that allowed both runners to cross the plate and extend UIU’s lead to 4-1.
The Bulldogs would respond to the despair of the home crowd though. In the seventh, UMD scored four runs on five hits including a two-run double by Erin Hunecke that gave the visitors the lead.
Prior to the seventh, Knop was pitching very well allowing just one run and four hits through the first six innings. For the game, she allowed five runs on nine hits while striking out four batters.
At the plate, the Peacocks tallied nine hits led by Mnichowicz, Haning and Knop, who all had two hits in the game.
The Peacocks will return to the field at the Eischeid Softball Complex Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. to face the Beavers of Bemidji State University in the team’s final games of the season. Upper Iowa will honor their four seniors prior to the start of game one.
