Tritons Sink Peacocks in Double Header

The Tritons of the University of Missouri-St. Louis stole game one of Tuesday's double header with a pair of runs in their final at bats and then erased a four-run deficit to in game two to sweep the Peacocks.  UMSL claimed game one by a 5-4 score and then posted a 15-7 win in game two.  After the pair of losses, Upper Iowa's record falls to 7-10 overall.

The Tritons put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first thanks to a homer with one out.  The bats were silent for both teams until the top of the sixth when the Peacocks were able to tie the game.  Erin Van Praag drove Katie Mnichowicz across the plate on a ground out; Mnichowicz singled to open the inning.

UMSL broke the tie quickly in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs with just one hit.  A double pushed one run across and a throwing error allowed the second run.

Trailing 3-1, the Peacocks retook the lead in the ninth with three runs on two hits.  UIU put runners at second and third with one out.  Bailee Haberman plated the first run on a grounder to short and a double by Mnichowicz forced the tying run home.  Kylee Knop followed with a single to left center that allowed Upper Iowa to take a 4-3 lead.

The home team rallied once again for the final two runs of the game.  After loading the bases with no outs, the Tritons scored the runs on a single to center that ended the game.

Knop took the loss for UIU after throwing six innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits and seven walks while striking out four batters.  The Peacock senior hit well on the day racking up three hits in her four at bats.

In the second game, UMSL put three runs across the plate in the bottom of the first, but UIU was able to put a huge number on the board in the top of the second. 

The Peacocks sent 12 batters to the plate scoring 7 runs on 5 hits and a pair of Triton errors.  Hailley Haning, Missy Olson, Haberman, Mnichowicz and Van Praag all tallied hits. 

Missouri-St. Louis tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the third inning and then ran away with the contest thanks to five runs in the fourth, one in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to close out the game early with a 15-7 victory.

Brooklyn Koranda earned a no-decision after just 2.2 innings; she allowed seven runs, six earned, on four hits and four walks.  Jenna Hermsen took the loss with just one-third of an inning allowing four runs on three hits and a walk.

At the plate, Olson was the only Peacock to register more than one hit, UIU's third basemen had two hits.
