Game One Box Score

Game Two Box Score

The Peacock softball team dropped a pair of Northern Sun Conference games today to the #3 Warriors of Winona State University.  WSU took game one 11-3 in a contest that was shortened to five innings due to the run rule and held on for an exciting 6-2 win in game two.  Upper Iowa loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh inning and nearly cleared the bases as a Hailley Haning drove a ball to the corner.  Sam Hildebrandt made a tremendous catch at the line just in front of the fence to end the rally and the game.

Upper Iowa sponsored a breast cancer awareness event for the day to coincide with the Swing for Life initiative  A signed Jennie Finch poster, a pink glove signed by the teamand several UIU game jersies were available for fans to bid on through a silent auction with all of the proceeds going to the Swing for Life.  Megan Gavin, daughter of UIU’s own Karla Gavin, threw out the first pitch and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee ran games and activities with various breast cancer awareness prizes.

In the first game, the Warriros outhit the Peacocks 13-3 and scored in four of the five innings played.  Winona State jumped on the board with a two-run homer in the first and added four more runs in the second.

Upper Iowa scored a run inthe bottom of the second on a Haning solo homer, but the Warriors scored two in the third to claim an 8-1 lead.  The Peacocks final runs of the first game came in the bottom of the third as Whitney Williams and Bailee Haberman drove runners in.

Winona State ended the game in the fifth when they scored three runs moving ahead, 11-3, and then holding UIU scoreless in their half of the inning.

In the second game, the Warriors once again put two runs across the plate in the first thanks to an rbi-double, but the Peacocks quickly answered with a run of their own in the first.  Katie Mnichowicz walked and later scored on a Haning single to centerfield.

The Warriors pulled away with a trio of runs in the fourth highlighted by a pair of solo shots to left field by Hildebrandt and Kaitlin Hardie.

Winona State used a leadoff double to post a run in the fifth taking a 6-1 lead, but UIU didn't back down.

The Peacocks strung three hits together in the fifth to score a run on a Williams single down the right field line and in the seventh loaded the bases with two outs.  The final shot by Haning looked good, but Hildebrandt made a great play as the line drive dove down toward the foul pole.  The final snare sent UIU home empty-handed.

Kylee Knop (6-11) took the loss after throwing seven innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits while striking out two Warriors.  Haberman tallied two hits in the second game as Upper Iowa totaled seven in the contest.

Upper Iowa will return to the field in Fayette for a non-conference double header with future NSIC-foe Minot State University tomorrow afternoon.  The Sunday matinee will begin at 1 p.m.
