This Week in Peacock Football... Upper Iowa will travel to Mankato, Minn. to line up against the #6 team in the country in the form of the Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Peacocks have lost three straight close ballgames including last week’s 17-14 decision versus Wayne State in Fayette. A 47-yard field goal by Max Martin with 2:13 to play in the game gave the Wildcats their first lead and sealed the victory. The Mavericks, thanks to a 27-13 victory over Sioux Falls, have clinched a share of the NSIC regular season and south division titles. Minnesota State boasts the fifth-best scoring offense with 34.6 points per contest and the second-best rushing offense in the conference gaining 204.2 yards per game. Their defense has allowed the fewest points per game in the NSIC at just 16.4 points. Upper Iowa’s passing offense is the best in the NSIC with 299.4 yards per match up.
The Series... The Mavericks have won all six meetings in the series which began in 2006 when Upper Iowa moved up to NCAA Division II and gained membership in the Northern Sun Conference.
Hosch Turns the “Kea”... Redshirt sophomore
Keaton Hosch broke another record for UIU last week. The Independence native reset the single season yards receiving mark previously held by Dwayne Croker (1,023 yards in 2006). Hosch now has 1,044 yards this season on 58 catches. He has twelve touchdowns this season which tie him for 78th in the nation and seventh in the NSIC in scoring. Hosch is 11th in the nation and first in the conference with 104.4 receiving yards per game and also ranks 4th nationally and first in the NSIC in all-purpose yards with 188.2 per game. His work on punt returns has vaulted UIU to 2nd nationally and the top spot in the NSIC. He is averaging the second most yards per punt return, but with only 10 returns he fails to meet the minimum requirements to be ranked as an individual.
