Head Coach
Heath Grimm and the Upper Iowa Wrestling program announced that Ricky Briggs, a senior at St. Michael- Albertville High School in Albertville, Minnesota, has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and wrestling careers at Upper Iowa University.
Briggs was a runner-up in last year’s Minnesota State AAA Wrestling Championships at 182 pounds. The future 184/197-pounder was a Cadet All- American and was a member of the Minnesota National Team in 2010 and 2011. St. Michael-Albertville has become one of the perennial powers in Class AAA wrestling in Minnesota with three straight runner-up finishes and a fourth-place finish prior to that run. Briggs is one of four wrestlers at STMA that signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday.
“There are a lot of things to like about Ricky and his potential moving forward,” said Grimm. “Ricky is from a strong high school wrestling program that is recognized nationally and has produced numerous college wrestlers. His father was a college wrestler, which only adds to his ability to make a smooth transition into college wrestling. He loves to compete and train year around and gained valuable experience last year en route to his runner up finish while battling an injury.“
Ricky is the son of Joel and Jennifer Briggs and will study psychology at Upper Iowa.
