Radio... Upper Iowa Peacock football can be heard throughout the 2012 season courtesy of AM 950 KOEL. Play-by-play announcer Joe Stasi is in his tenth season as the “Voice of the Peacocks.” He will be joined on the broadcast by Zach Carlyle, a sophomore sports communication major at UIU. The pre-game show is scheduled for 4:40 p.m.
This Week in Peacock Football... The Peacocks will head to Marshall, Minnesota to line up against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University. SMSU has won six of the eight meetings between these teams since the series began in 2004. The Mustangs lost a 34-31 double-overtime upset bid versus #10 Minnesota State University, Mankato last week, while the Peacocks suffered a 66-20 setback at home versus Augustana College. Both teams are 2-5 overall this season, while SMSU earned a South Division win over Wayne State two weeks ago. The Peacocks boast the third-ranked pass offense in the NSIC, while the Mustangs bring in the third-best rushing game in the league.
The Series... SMSU leads the series 6-2. The Mustangs have won the last four match ups including last year’s 28-24 victory in Marshall. The Peacocks won a 28-16 game in 2004, and after two losses, evened the series at 2-2 with a 39-27 win at home in 2007.
Three is “Kea”... Redshirt sophomore Keaton Hosch (#3) has eight touchdowns this season including six on receptions, one on a kick return and one on a punt return. His 8 visits to the endzone tie him for 90th in the nation in scoring. Hosch is 29th in the nation and 4th in the conference with 89.6 receiving yards per game and also ranks 13th nationally and 3rd in the NSIC in all-purpose yards with 168.9 per game. The Independence, Iowa native has returned 15 kicks for 370 yards and 6 punts for 153 yards and added 35 receptions for 627 yards and three rushes for 32 yards to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in all-purpose yards this season. His work on punt returns has vaulted UIU to 7th nationally and the top spot in the NSIC.
Forecast calls for “Cole” in the Air…
Cole Jaeschke has posted a passing efficiency of 135.4 through the first seven games, which ranks him 46th in the nation and 6th in the Northern Sun. The redshirt sophomore is accounting for 288.1 yards of total offense per game, which ranks 25th in the country and 2nd in the NSIC. He has now thrown for 4,312 yards in his career and sits in fourth place on the all-time list within 232 yards of claiming second place. The Peacock passing offense is ranked 27th in the country and third in the NSIC with 282.6 yards per game under Jaeschke’s leadership.

Douglas & Leggett, LB, Inc… UIU’s dominant duo of Ethan Douglas and Tony Leggett have the NSIC’s attention. Coaches around the league have to game plan around the pair of Peacock linebackers, who spread their big hits from sideline to sideline. Douglas leads the UIU defense with 81 tackles and Leggett follows closely behind with 72 tackles. Douglas is tied for 6th in the nation and 2nd in the NSIC with 11.6 tackles per game, while Leggett is 27th nationally and 7th in conference play with 10.3 per contest.
