FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa Head Football Coach Jason Hoskins has announced the addition of Clyde Logan to the staff as the team's Wide Receivers Coach. Logan brings 13 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Peacocks, spending the last three years at the Division II level.
"I just want to sincerely thank Coach Hoskins and everyone at Upper Iowa University for the opportunity," Logan said. "I'm extremely grateful for the trust, support and belief that everyone has shown in me throughout this process. It means a lot to join a program with such great people, culture and vision. I will give Coach Hoskins, the university and our fans my best effort to produce winners on and off the field."
Logan was an All-State defensive back at Mt. San Jacinto College in California, where he played at the junior college level under CCCAA Hall of Fame coach Ed Carberry. He transferred to Idaho State for two seasons and made the transition to offense as an all-conference wide receiver. After graduation, he played professionally as a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals and in Europe with the Ravensburg Riverbacks of the German Football League.
"What I enjoy the most about coaching is building lifelong relationships," Logan said. "I believe that I can bring a lot of value to the Upper Iowa wide receiver room. I played the position at the Division I level and at the NFL level. I've been fortunate to be coached by some outstanding mentors and play alongside some exceptional receivers throughout my lifetime, and I'm excited to draw from those experiences to develop the position here."
Last season, Logan served as the defensive backs coach for the Midwestern State Mustangs out of Wichita Falls, Texas. Before that, he spent two years at Western New Mexico as a special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach.
He coached for 10 seasons at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California. During his time there, he held roles as the defensive backs coach, special teams coordinator and placement coordinator before becoming the defensive coordinator for the 2022 season.
After coaching defense for the majority of his career, Logan is enthusiastic about the opportunity to mirror his playing career and make the switch to coaching wide receivers.
"I feel that spending 13 years as a secondary coach and defensive coordinator is a real advantage," Logan said. "I believe it allows me to view the wide receiver position from a different perspective that will benefit our team. Because of my understanding of defensive coverages, I can help our wide receivers play faster by giving them a better understanding of what's happening in front of them. I've taught a variety of different defensive techniques and coverages, so I understand where the weaknesses are. I'm excited to make the same transition as a coach that I made as a player in college, moving from defensive back to wide receiver."
Logan is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, where he joined the Marine Corps out of high school. During his four years in the service, he played three years on the Marine Corps all-star football team.
He earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from Idaho State. Logan continued his education at Concordia-Irvine (Calif.), where he received his master's degree in coaching and athletics administration. He also earned a master's in exercise science.
"I'm excited to have Clyde Logan join our Peacock football family as our Wide Receiver coach," Hoskins said. "Coach Logan has a strong reputation of being a tireless recruiter and a developer of young men. Our players will be able to draw from his knowledge and have a great mentor, which is extremely important to me. I'm looking forward to seeing our wide receiver position group excel under Coach Logan."
Logan and his wife, Inish, are excited about joining the Upper Iowa community alongside their sons, Zion and Zekiel.
"I chose Upper Iowa because I've watched the program from afar over the years and have seen how much it has grown," Logan said. "Coach Hoskins has built a tremendous culture and a clear vision that has helped this program thrive. I wanted the opportunity to be part of something special happening in Fayette."
