The #2 Peacock wrestling program will head into their fifth straight NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals this weekend, Jan. 7-8, as the number two seed.  Upper Iowa will line up against Limestone College in Springfield, Illinois at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.

The Peacocks are 1-0 in duals this year after defeating Waldorf (33-17).  Upper Iowa will step on the mat with Limestone this Saturday at 11 a.m.  The Saints are 3-4 in duals this season defeating Spartanburg Methodist, Truett-McConnell and St. Andrews, while the losses have come against Seton Hill, Chadron State, Lake Erie and #17 Findlay.  The Saints have two individuals ranked nationally as well; Bryce Sopko is 7th at 174 pounds and Dan Scanlan is 2nd at 197 pounds right behind UIU’s Carl Broghammer.

The National Duals are a two-day annual tournament which features 16 teams each from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA, as well as eight NJCAA teams and eight NCWA teams.  In the NCAA Division II bracket, ten of the sixteen teams are ranked including four teams from the Northern Sun Conference.  The Division II field includes #1 Newberry, #2 Upper Iowa, #3 St. Cloud State, #4 Nebraska-Kearney, #6 Augustana, #7 Central Oklahoma, #11 UW-Parkside, #15 King, #17 Findlay, #19 Minnesota State, as well as, Limestone and San Francisco State, who are both receiving votes.

Depending on the outcome of the Upper Iowa (#2 seed) - Limestone dual, the Peacocks will line up against either the winner or loser of the UW-Parkside (#7 seed) - San Francisco State dual on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

The Peacocks have placed in the top eight in three of the last four years at the National Duals. Upper Iowa claimed 8th place four years ago, improved to 7th place the next year, and then claimed 5th place two years ago. Last year’s run at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals in Cedar Falls was cut short after a close loss to #1 Nebraska-Omaha (21-15) and a loss to Central Oklahoma (22-13).  The Peacocks got their opportunity to upset UNO after defeating the eighth-seed Grand Canyon (20-18).
