Kyle Pedretti (125, #1 NCAA) led the dual off with a major decision, 17-4, thanks to six takedowns and a pair of two-point nearfalls. Four of the takedowns came in the first period of action.
The Peacocks pushed their lead to 10-0 after the 133 pound match thanks to a win by fall (2:28) from

Freshman
Jordan Rinken stopped U-Mary’s momentum with a win by fall in the final seconds (6:54) of the 149 pound match. With the match tied, 4-4, Rinken found himself with an opportunity for the pin and he took advantage with just six seconds left to push Upper Iowa’s lead to 16-4.
Winston Robbins (157) and
Blake Sorensen (165) each picked up wins by decision to extend the Peacock lead to 22-4. Robbins used a three-point nearfall with the score tied at 2-2 to pull off a 6-2 victory, while Sorensen rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the final period scoring an escape and a takedown as time wound down to pick up the 4-3 win.
Wade Gobin (174, #6 NCAA) put together a solid match and turned in a major decision, 18-9, giving UIU a 26-4 lead in the dual. Gobin picked up six takedowns and a three-point nearfall en route to his big win.
The 184-pound match featured two NSIC veterans; UIU’s
Mitch Schultz (#4 NCAA) and U-Mary’s Brady Anderson. Schultz trailed 2-0 heading into the final period but scored a reversal to open the period and then earned the win with a ride time point, 3-2.
Carl Broghammer (197, #4 NCAA) won his match by a 9-3 decision fueled by a dominating first period. Broghammer got a takedown and a pair of three-point nearfalls to take an 8-1 lead into the remainder of the match. The victory pushed UIU’s advantage to 32-4 on the scoreboard.
U-Mary earned the final decision of the night with a 3-1 victory at heavyweight.
Luke Stika lost the match to U-Mary’s Martin Patron. After each wrestler scored an escape, Patron earned the deciding takedown in the final period for the win. The final decision put the final score at 32-7 in favor of Upper Iowa.
