Returning to the RCTC Dome in Rochester, Minn. for fourth time this season, the Upper Iowa softball team closed out their weekend on Sunday by taking the field against #18-ranked Minnesota State before battling the #8-ranked Warriors of Winona State. Upper Iowa played both squads tough early in each contest, but the fifth inning in each game is where the nationally ranked teams pulled away as UIU dropped the non-conference games by the same score, 8-0.
In the morning matchup, UIU trailed 1-0 before the #18-ranked Mavericks posted three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to end the ballgame, 8-0.
Against Winona State, UIU trailed 2-0 in the third inning but WSU used a big fifth inning by scoring six runs making the final tally 8-0 in favor of the Mavericks.
Second baseman Robin Schaefer tallied two of UIU's four hits in game two.
The Peacocks return to action this Wednesday when they complete non-conference play by travelling to Omaha, Nebraska to battle the #23-ranked Mavericks of Nebraska-Omaha. The first pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
