The Peacock men's basketball team evened their record at 1-1 with a 79-38 dismantling of the Beavers of Minot State in Winona, Minn. tonight.  Upper Iowa shot over 50% from the field and from beyond the arc, while holding their opponents to less than 30% shooting. 

Upper Iowa put the game away early thanks to a solid first half on both ends of the floor.  The Peacocks put 38 points on the board thanks to 50% shooting from the floor including 3 of 6 from behind the three-point line.  UIU limited Minot State to just 6 field goals in the opening half and just one three-pointer.

UIU raced out to a 14-2 lead just a minute and a half into the game thanks to five made baskets in eight attempts.  Minot State rallied to cut the gap to nine, 24-15, but the Peacocks put them away over the final eight minutes thanks to a second 14-2 run in the half.  Upper Iowa took their 38-17 lead into the locker room for halftime.

The Peacocks kept the pressure up in the second half and ran away with the decision, 79-38.

Tucker Wentzien led the Peacock scoring parade with 16, while Mark Lafrenz and Sam Elgin also reached double figures with 12 each.  In all, twelve Peacocks scored on the night.  Wentzien pulled in a team-high 7 boards and added 3 blocks and 3 steals, while Jake Hughes and Trevor Hook each handed out 4 assists. 

Upper Iowa (1-1) will return to the court at Winona State University tomorrow afternoon to face the Simpson College Storm.  The former Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes will face off at 5 p.m.
