This Week in Peacock Football...
The Upper Iowa Football team has equaled their start to the 2006 season posting a 3-3 record just past the midway point of the season. The Peacocks will now look to win their fourth game of the year; something that hasn’t been done in the 21st century. The 1999 squad, which finished 6-4, was the last team to win a fourth ball game in a season. Minnesota State comes into the game having dropped a 31-13 decision to #16 St. Cloud State last week after running off a four-game win streak that included a 24-14 victory against Winona State. The Mavericks boast the 16th best defense in the country, which has given the 41st best scoring offense in the country good starting field position all season long.
Honorary Captain...
Steve Harms will serve as an Honorary Captain this Saturday and will participate in the coin toss.
Upper Iowa’s football complex transformation was made possible by a $7.5 million gift to the University last spring by Steve and Diane Harms, UIU alums, of West Des Moines, Iowa.
Steve Harms earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education at UIU, where he played football. Diane Harms graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UIU, where she was a cheerleader. Steve is currently a member of the UIU Board of Trustees. He and Diane are serving as two of the three co-chairs of the UIU capital campaign. Both graduated in 1973.
The Series...
The Mavericks have won all five meetings with the Peacocks. The series began after Upper Iowa made the move up to NCAA Division II from Division III.
