Minnesota State scored the first 24 points of the game and held Upper Iowa scoreless until the final two and a half minutes of the first half. The Mavericks scored three touchdowns in the first quarter highlighted by a 64-yard run by Chris Echols on a fake punt. Upper Iowa’s defense began to stand up in the second quarter holding the home team to just a field goal with under five minutes to play in the half.

Upper Iowa’s first scoring drive came after the field goal. Backup quarterback Ben Curran led the Peacocks on a 6-play, 65-yard drive for a touchdown. The drive was capped off by a Curran to Jessie Hubbard 4-yard scoring pass, but was highlighted by a 33-yard completion to La’Mont Williams down the sideline.
