SMITHVILLE, Mo. - Upper Iowa men's golf played in the NSIC Preview hosted by Winona State (Minn.) at the Paraside Pointe Golf Complex. Owen Davison had the best finish, tying for 16th with a total of 148 (+4).
UIU placed 11th at the preview with a total score of 610 (+34). The team shot 304 (+16) in round one and 306 (+18 ) in round two. The Peacocks finished two strokes behind Winona State's B-team in 10th place.
Davison shot 73 (+1) in the first round and 75 (+3) in round two. In the tournament, he was third on par fives. The graduate also had a team-high six birdies.
Jayden Rios finished 47th, scoring a total of 155 (+9). The senior shot a season-low 73 (+1) in round two. He also had the third fewest bogeys out of any participant at the tournament with three.
Jack Miller and Ethan Cahalan tied for 64th, scoring 156 (+12). Joseph Grau tied for 68th, shooting 157 (+13). The Monona native led the Peacocks in pars with 26.
Christian Burkhart tied for 80th, totaling 160 (+16). Jaxx Johnson tied for 91st with a score of 164 (+20). Ethan Anderson tied for 94th, shooting 167 (+23).
Tournament host Winona State took home first place, shooting 574 (+2). Augustana (S.D.) placed second, scoring 587 (+11). Minnesota Crookston finished third with a score of 589 (+13).
Peyton Coahran of Winona State and Marc Bofarull of Minnesota Crookston tied for first individually, shooting 141 (-3). Chase Camilli of Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.), Henry Hartquist of Augustana and Freddie Muggeridge of Southwestern CC tied for third, scoring 142 (-2).
UIU stays in Iowa to compete in the Wartburg Spring Invite on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29. The meet takes place at the Prairie Links Golf Club in Waverly.
