Carlson announces departure from Peacock men’s soccer

National search for new head coach to begin immediately

FAYETTE, Iowa - Jason Carlson has announced his resignation as head coach of the Upper Iowa men's soccer program.

"While we certainly did not want to lose Coach Carlson, I am happy that he was able to find a new opportunity that was a great one for him and his family," said Vice President for Athletics Rick Hartzell. "All of us at Upper Iowa wish him nothing but the best going forward, and we thank him for his great work while here with us."

Carlson coached four years in his second stint with the Peacocks, rejoining the program in 2022. He helped usher the team into the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) during the 2023 season.

His first stint was in 2013-16, where he helped the Peacocks claim the MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association) regular season title in 2015 and advance to the NCAA Division II Central Region Finals. He was also the MIAA and Central Region Coach of the Year.

During his eight seasons at Upper Iowa, Carlson amassed a 54-73-15 record. He has a 103-106-27 mark in total during his career at UIU, Mount Olive (N.C.), Florida Southern and Clarke.

Assistant Coach Jeancy Matumona-Bau will be overseeing and monitoring team activities until a new head coach is hired. A national search for the new head coach will begin immediately.
