FAYETTE, Iowa - UIU women's wrestling competes in the NCAA Region V Championships this Saturday in Indianola at 11 a.m. The meet is hosted by Simpson College.
ABOUT THE MEET
The top three wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the national championship. There are 10 weight classes: 103, 110, 117, 124, 131, 145, 160, 180 and 207 pounds. Across six regions, a total of 180 wrestlers will qualify for the National Championships on March 6-7 in Coralville.
This specific regional championship will be held at Simpson. The meet features a plethora of teams from DI to DIII: Augsburg (Minn.), No. 18 Augustana (S.D.), Buena Vista, Carthage (Wis.), Central College, Cornell College, No. 25 Dubuque, No. 1 Iowa, Luther, No. 9 Quincy (Ill.), No. 15 Simpson, No. 11 Wartburg, Wisconsin-Oshkosh and No. 23 Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for seniors (65+), $5 for children ages six and older and free for children five and under. Doors will open around 10 a.m and fans should enter through Cowles Fieldhouse from D Street (west entrance).
LAST TIME OUT
Upper Iowa competed in its last regular-season meet on Feb. 7 in the Grand View Open. Eliana Callies (160) took home second place in the meet after winning four total matches, with winning two by tech fall and two by fall.
Kylee Shoop (131) finished fourth, winning six of her matches. Three of her wins came by falls, two by tech falls and one by decision. Bentley Hills (103) also won a match by fall.
