LAST TIME OUT
Upper Iowa picked up a huge homecoming win this past Saturday against Truman State (Mo.), handing the Bulldogs their first conference loss. Despite being outgained 324-175, the Peacocks forced four turnovers and scored 14 points off of them to win the game, 21-19.Â
Trailing 10-0 in the second quarter, a 20-yard completion to Camden Hungerholt finally sparked the Peacock offense. UIU capped off the 53-yard drive with a Jayden Gordon seven-yard rushing touchdown for the team's first score.Â
Two plays into the following TSU drive, defensive end Daniel Robinson forced a fumble, which was scooped up by senior Brycen Hendrix, who took it back for a 47-yard score. This marked the first scoop-and-score for the Peacocks since Christian Ruff in 2018 against Augustana (S.D.).Â
Defensive back Aaron King got UIU's first interception of the game on the opening Bulldog drive of the second half. The Peacock offense took advantage with their best drive of the day, a nine-play, 84-yard march that was topped off by a two-yard touchdown run by Gordon to lead 21-13.Â
Truman State put together one more drive in the fourth quarter, completing a 28-yard pass to Luke Allen for a touchdown. Evan Dorn and Braylon Kammrad sandwiched Truman State's Adam Hall in the end zone to force the incompletion and keep UIU in the lead, 21-19.Â
After a Peacock punt, Jalen Hodo recorded Upper Iowa's third interception of the game. The offense was able to run out the final 1:41 and seal the game.Â
Gordon led Upper Iowa with 12 carries for 56 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Zamar Wise was 11-of-19 with 82 yards through the air, and 17 carries for 40 yards rushing on the ground.Â

AS SEEN IN SPORTS ILLUSTRATED
After five straight games decided by two points or fewer, the Peacock football team was featured in Sports Illustrated's "College Football Week 6 Winners and Losers" article by Patrick Andres. The Peacocks were dubbed "the most exciting team in college football" and were also featured on the Sickos Committee X page. UIU's last five games have an average margin of victory of 1.8 points.Â
This is an exceptionally rare stretch not just among program history, but amongst college football in general. The closest the Peacock football program has come to matching this historically would be in 1956, when the team had five one-score games to end the season. The average margin of victory in those games was 6.6 points, with UIU winning two of them. The Peacocks had four straight one-score games to start the season in 2008 with an average margin of victory of 4.75 points.
In all of college football, there have been two streaks in the modern era that have come close to UIU's last five games. In 2002, Utah State had five consecutive games decided by three points or fewer, with an average margin of victory of two points. 2021 Miami (Fla.) had five consecutive games decided by four points or fewer, with an average margin of victory of 2.6 points.
