FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa football (1-3, 0-1 GLVC) returns to Harms-Eischeid Stadium after a month on the road this Saturday at 1 p.m. against Missouri S&T (1-4, 0-2 GLVC). The Peacocks are playing their first home game since the opener on Aug. 29 against Jamestown (N.D.).

Upper Iowa and Missouri S&T are knotted at three games apiece all-time in the series. S&T won the first matchup in 2004, while UIU won the latest matchup last season, 36-26. The Peacocks have a 2-1 record vs. the Miners in conference games since joining the GLVC.

LAST TIME OUT
Upper Iowa lost its third game by two points or less this season, falling to Lincoln (Mo.) (2-2, 1-1 GLVC) 34-32 this past Saturday. The Peacocks have been defeated in their three losses this season by a total of five points. 

After Lincoln led 20-19 at halftime, the Blue Tigers took advantage of a blocked punt and a Peacock fumble to score two touchdowns for a 34-19 lead into the fourth quarter. UIU scored with 12:19 left in the game on an eight-yard touchdown rush by quarterback Zamar Wise to cut the lead to a score.

Defensive back Aaron King got his first career interception on the next drive, setting up the Peacock offense in Lincoln territory. A few plays later, Wise ran in for another score, cutting the lead to two. A shovel pass on the two-point conversion failed to get in, keeping Lincoln in the lead with 8:40 left.

UIU's defense forced a stop on the next drive, giving the Peacock offense the opportunity to go down and take the lead. After getting onto the Lincoln side of the field, Wise was sacked for a 13-yard loss to halt the drive. UIU had one last chance on the final play, after multiple laterals, Wise got all the way down to the Lincoln 26-yard line before being tackled.

Wise finished the game 21-of-29 (72.4%) and had a career-high 244 passing yards. He added 15 rushes for 55 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, despite being sacked five times. Wise completed passes to eight different Peacocks.

Camden Hungerholt led the receiving efforts with a career-high six receptions for 75 yards. On the ground, running back Damon Head Jr. totaled 79 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman Ronald Wilson Jr. added 12 carries for 63 yards. 

Senior linebacker Michael Mulherin tallied a career-high 15 tackles (six solo) with a tackle-for-loss. Braylon Kammrad and Evan Dorn each had seven tackles. Yashua Pettis-Taylor made his season debut with five tackles and a pass breakup.

AROUND THE GLVC
William Jewell (Mo.) (3-0, 2-0 GLVC) is the lone undefeated team in the conference after defeating McKendree (Ill.) (1-3, 1-1 GLVC) this past week, 28-21. The Cardinals recovered a fumble in the end zone and ran in a touchdown with 3:35 left to help outscore the Bearcats 14-7 in the final quarter of the game. 

After going 0-3 in nonconference play, Truman State (Mo.) (2-3, 2-0 GLVC) has picked up two wins to start GLVC action. The Bulldogs defeated UIndy (1-4, 0-2 GLVC), 29-27, this past weekend as running back Madden Irving totaled 158 yards and two touchdowns on the ground with a receiving touchdown. UIndy entered the season as the defending GLVC champions, but has dropped two games to start conference play.

Quincy (Ill.) (2-2, 1-0 GLVC) defeated Lincoln two weeks ago to earn their first conference win. The Hawks defeated Wayne State (Mich.) (0-4) in nonconference action this past Saturday. Lincoln, Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (2-3, 1-1 GLVC) and McKendree are all 1-1 in conference action.

Southwest Baptist leads the conference in scoring, averaging 36.8 points per game, followed by Quincy at 34.8 points per game and William Jewell at 30 points per game. William Jewell has the best scoring defense in the league, allowing 17.3 points per game while UIndy and Lincoln are tied for second at 24 points per game. 

McKendree's Kendrick Lyons is the top passer in the conference, averaging 267.3 yards per game. He's also thrown nine touchdowns. William Jewell's Charlie Loose is the most efficient passer with a 154.6 QBR. 

Collin Parsons of Quincy is the conference's rushing leader, averaging 120.5 yards per game along with six touchdowns. Kendric Johnson of McKendree leads the GLVC in receiving with 324 yards and four touchdowns.

STATISTICAL SUMMARY
Wise is 60-for-100 this season with 755 yards and four touchdowns through the air. He's averaging 188.75 passing yards per game, ranking sixth in the GLVC. The UMass transfer is third in the conference in rushing yards per game at 98.5. He's totaled a team-high 394 yards with five touchdowns on 72 attempts.

The senior leads the conference in total offense, averaging 287.3 yards per game. That mark also ranks 16th nationally. With his nine touchdowns this season, Wise is sixth in the GLVC in scoring and fourth in the conference in touchdowns. Nationally, he is 28th in rushing yards, 22nd in rushing yards per game and 42nd in total touchdowns.

Wilson Jr. has added 123 rushing yards and a touchdown to the offense during his freshman campaign. He also has 125 receiving yards and a score for the second-most yards through the air on the team. Head Jr. has 103 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. The junior also has six catches for 60 yards.

Freshman LJ Nyenow Jr. leads the Peacocks in receiving with 13 catches for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Hungerholt is up to 11 catches for 105 yards. Tight end Logan Rosauer has caught nine passes for 99 yards.

On defense, Mulherin leads the Peacock defense with 32 tackles (12 solo) and has two tackles-for-loss. He's 11th in the GLVC in total tackles. Safety Braylon Kammrad has totaled 25 tackles (14 solo), and linebacker Evan Dorn has 21 tackles (nine solo). 

Demontay Mack leads the team in tackles-for-loss with 3.5. Daniel Robinson and Jalen Hodo each have a sack this season. Four different Peacocks have recorded an interception with Hodo, King, Dominic Salibi and Christian Lassiter each snatching one. 

Salibi has tallied a team-high four pass breakups, and he ranks second in the GLVC in passes defended. King has three pass breakups and is third in the conference in that category as well.

Nathan Behne is 7-for-10 on field goals this season with a long of 43. He is eighth in the GLVC in scoring, averaging 7.3 points per game. Behne has made the fifth-most field goals per game in the nation and leads the conference in that category as well.

As a team, the Peacocks have allowed 150.3 passing yards, which leads the GLVC and ranks 14th nationally. UIU is seventh in the nation in time of possession, averaging 34:30 with the ball per game. The Peacocks average the second-fewest penalties in the conference with 21 and have the second-best fourth-down conversion percentage at 71.4%. 

The Peacocks are averaging 28.3 points per game, ranking fourth in the GLVC. UIU's defense is allowing 25.3 points per game, which also ranks fourth. The team has the second-best rushing offense in the conference, averaging 182.5 yards per game.

ABOUT THE MINERS
Missouri S&T won its season-opening game over Westgate Christian (Texas), 89-12, before falling in the next four games. The Miners lost by four touchdowns to Truman State in the GLVC opener before falling this past Saturday to Southwest Baptist, 31-28. That was S&T's only one-score loss this season.

The Miners held a 28-20 lead entering the fourth quarter against the Bearcats this past week. A touchdown with 8:49 left tied the game, and Missouri S&T lost on a last-second 35-yard field goal by SBU's Kaleb James.

S&T established the ground game with 63 carries for 296 yards and three touchdowns. Senior running back AJ Harris totaled 25 carries for 129 yards and two scores, and sophomore Evan Wells added 24 carries for 121 yards.

Eli Scott was 8-of-15 for 89 yards with a touchdown and an interception at quarterback. SBU had a major passing advantage as Cooper Owens was 20-of-30 for 276 yards with two touchdowns. He also threw two interceptions to S&T's Reid Meekins and Devin Dunn. The Bearcats outgained the Miners, 490-355.

This season, Scott is 56-of-102 through the air for 568 yards. He's thrown two touchdowns and six interceptions. He's tied for the second-most interceptions thrown in the GLVC. 

Harris and Wells are a true one-two punch, with Harris leading the way for 294 yards on 60 carries and seven touchdowns. Wells has totaled 276 yards on 71 carries with a touchdown. They are sixth and seventh, respectively, in rushing in the GLVC. Scott has added 71 yards on 26 attempts with a touchdown. 

Senior K'Vion Bills leads the team in receiving with nine catches for 115 yards. Senior Tyler Gioia has caught nine passes for 109 yards. 

Defensively, Meekins leads the team with 25 tackles (15 solo) at defensive back. He also has an interception and a pass breakup. Sophomore defensive back Kam Richardson has totaled 22 tackles (16 solo), with a sack and three pass breakups. Dunn has a team-high two interceptions this season. 

Junior linebacker Kaden Glass leads the team in tackles-for-loss with five, including two sacks. He also has a forced fumble and 18 total tackles. Junior Christian Kemp has recorded 16 tackles (four solo), two tackles-for-loss, a sack and three pass breakups on the defensive line.

Head Jr. scored four touchdowns and ran for a career-high 111 yards in last season's matchup against the Miners in Rolla, Missouri. The Peacocks were dominant on the ground, holding a 249-47 rushing advantage. All five of UIU's scoring drives were 60 or more yards, and the Peacocks never trailed in the contest.

Head coach Andy Ball is in his fifth season with the Miners in 2026. He was hired after previously serving as the offensive coordinator for the team for four seasons. Ball led the Miners to a 6-5 record last season and enters Saturday's game with an 18-30 overall record as the head coach of Missouri S&T.
