FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa men's wrestling (4-5, 2-1 GLVC) has a busy upcoming weekend competing at the Loras College Open and in a conference dual against Quincy (Ill.) (8-4, 1-2 GLVC). Saturday's open is scheduled for 9 a.m. in Dubuque, while Sunday's action is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.

LAST TIME OUT
The Peacocks went 1-1 last week, falling 19-17 to No. 8 McKendree and getting a 22-16 win against No. 25 UIndy. Ethen Doty (149), Griffin Luke (174) and Tanner Arjes (141) each won both of their matches.
Against McKendree, Treyton Ackman (125), Arjes, Doty, Luke and Braxten Westendorf (184) all picked up victories for UIU. Arjes had the lone bonus point victory for UIU, picking up a 15-0 tech fall win.
Preston Klostermann (157) won by fall against Indianapolis, while Arjes, Doty, Nick Mueller (165) and Luke all picked up major decision wins. Doty had the win of the night, defeating No. 11 Gavin Garcia in an 8-0 major decision.
THE OPEN MAT RANKINGS
Upper Iowa totaled three ranked wrestlers in this week's Open Mat rankings. Doty was the top-ranked wrestler for the Peacocks, coming in at No. 7 at 149 pounds. He moved up one spot from last week after improving his record to 17-4.
Luke picked up his first appearance in the rankings, coming in at No. 13 at 174 pounds. Westendorf is ranked No. 16 at 184 pounds.
NWCA RANKINGS
The Peacocks had three ranked wrestlers in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings released on Jan. 22. Doty, Lawson Losee (174) and Westendorf earned rankings.
Doty was the highest-ranked wrestler, coming in at No. 8 at 149 pounds. Losee is ranked No. 10 at 174 pounds, while Westendorf earned his first ranking of the season at No. 15 at 184 pounds.
In the team ranking, the Peacocks were at the top in the receiving votes category of the poll, coming in with 9.5 points. In the GLVC, McKendree and UIndy are ranked No. 8 and No. 25, respectively. Quincy received seven points, and Maryville (Mo.) received 1.5 points.
Central Oklahoma remains the top team in the poll with 90.5 points and nine individuals ranked. Nebraska-Kearney is No. 2 with 81.5 points and nine ranked individuals. Gannon (Pa.) is third with 65 points, Grand Valley State (Mich.) is fourth with 63 points and Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.) is fifth with 62 points.
AROUND THE GLVC
McKendree (10-5, 4-0 GLVC) continues to lead the conference standings with a 4-0 GLVC record. The Bearcats have one more GLVC dual schedule for Feb. 5 against third-place UIndy (2-3, 1-1 GLVC). The Peacocks are second in the conference with a 2-1 record.
Quincy's Sabian Russell (149) earned GLVC Wrestler of the Week. He defeated UIndy's Gavin Garcia in a 5-3 decision and McKendree's Caleb Lavine with a tech fall.
LORAS COLLEGE OPEN INFORMATION - Saturday at 9 a.m.
The Loras Open starts at 9 a.m. in the Graber Sports Center. The open includes Coe College, Cornell College, Grandview, Hawkeye CC, Iowa, Iowa Central CC, Iowa State, Loras College, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, St. Ambrose and Valiant College Prep (Ariz.).
ABOUT THE HAWKS - Sunday at 2 p.m.
Quincy enters this week on a three-dual losing streak, including going 0-2 this past weekend against McKendree and UIndy. The Hawks picked up wins over Fort Hays State (Kan.) (3-7) and Southwest Minnesota State (2-9) at the Iron Mike Duals on Jan. 9.
Quincy received seven votes in the latest NWCA poll. This puts them as the 30th-ranked twam in the poll.
The Hawks have two ranked wrestlers in Russell at 149 pounds and Callan Ivy at 184 pounds, setting up ranked matchups against Doty and Westendorf. Russell is ranked No. 9 in the NWCA and No. 13 in The Open Mat. Ivy is ranked No. 10 in the NWCA and No. 14 in The Open Mat. Russell has a 22-6 record, and Ivy has a 23-6 record.
Head coach Jimmy Eggmeyer helped start both the men's and women's wrestling programs in 2022. He has an 18-30 record with the Hawks in his four seasons.
