INDIANAPOLIS - Redshirt freshman Braxten Westendorf earned GLVC Men's Wrestler of the Week after his 4-0 performance this past weekend at the NWCA duals. This marks the first weekly award in the Waverly native's young career.
Westendorf's weekend was highlighted by a major decision win over No. 12 David Davis of Tiffin. He also picked up a major decision win against Luke Justice of King (Tenn.), a tech fall win against Ridge Schutt of McKendree (Ill.) and a sudden victory over Gabe Blissenbach of West Liberty (W.V.).
With his 4-0 weekend, Westendorf was featured in Wednesday's Open Mat rankings. He came in at No. 14 after being unranked last week.
He becomes the third Men's Wrestler of the Week for UIU this season, joining Lawson Losee on Nov. 20 and Matthew Marcum on Dec. 10. This ties the 2023-24 season for the most GLVC Wrestler of the Week awards since joining the conference for the program.
UIU begins conference play this weekend in St. Louis, Missouri, against Maryville (Mo.). Action is scheduled for 7 p.m.
