Upper Iowa men's wrestling faced Drury on Super Bowl Sunday and came away with the 39-6 success, improving to a flawless 5-0 in GLVC action and 12-4 overall.
The Peacocks claimed wins in eight of the bouts; three by fall, two by decision and one by major decision, tech fall and forfeit.
UIU recorded one two-point nearfall, one three-point nearfall and three four-point nearfall. They notched three reversals and 14 takedowns compared to Drury's nine.
The dual started at 174, where
Lawson Losee started things off with a bang, pinning his opponent in the third period (6:15).
Colter Bye came to the mat next, shutting out his opponent and prevailing by major decision (12-0). Bye scored a bulk of his points in the final round, executing a four-point nearfall followed by a three-point nearfall.
The Peacocks held a 10-0 lead on the Panthers as
Geoffery Freeman (197) came up and collected six more team points, pinning his guy in 3:33.
Joshua Gaye (285) was up next, and he was victorious in a slim 4-2 decision.
Jackson Heaston (125) fell in a 12-5 decision, giving Drury their first points of the dual, trailing Upper Iowa 19-3.
Dawson Schmit (133) boosted the team scoring as he was triumphant by forfeit, adding six more points to UIU's total.
Ryan Wehner (141) defeated his opponent by tech fall (21-5). He collected five takedowns, one reversal and a four-point nearfall. Ethan Doty followed up with another big performance as he pinned his guy in 2:46.
Dalton Schams picked up a win at 157 in a 9-4 decision after two takedowns, two escapes and a point from stalling.
Collin Altensey (165) dropped to his opponent in a 12-8 decision.
Coming up next, Upper Iowa heads to the GLVC Championship Tournament on Feb. 16 on the campus of McKendree University. They enter the event as the number one seed and have a first round bye. Â The Peacocks will wrestle at 11:30 a.m. against the winner of Match 1 between #4 Maryville and #5 Drury.
