FAYETTE, Iowa - The Upper Iowa men's wrestling team (1-0) travels to Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the Auggie Open this Saturday. The meet begins at 9 a.m. with wrestlers from 10 schools across five states competing.
LAST TIME OUT
This past weekend, the Peacocks competed in the Luther Open, with three individuals taking home first-place honors. Treyton Ackman (125) and Lawson Losee (174) were champions in the elite bracket, while Preston Klostermann (157) was victorious in the silver bracket.
At 125, Ackman breezed through the elite bracket, winning his first two matches by fall. He followed that up with a victory by major decision in his third match before defeating Wisconsin-La Crosse's Grant Madl 10-4 to advance to the championship. A medical forfeit from his opponent resulted in Ackman being named champion, earning a team-best 27 points on the day.
Losee had a similar path to victory, earning wins by fall and tech fall in his first two matches. A win by decision in the quarterfinals and an advancement by medical forfeit in the semifinals placed him in the championship match. There, Losee faced off against the then-No. 2 wrestler at 174 in Division II, defeating Minnesota State's Drake Hayward 5-1 to claim first place.
Klostermann dominated his first four matches to advance to the 157 championship in the silver bracket, winning via two falls, a tech fall, and a major decision. In the championship match, he defeated Cole Dummer of Augsburg (Minn.) by a score of 11-7.
Ethen Doty (149), Geoffery Freeman (197), Cale Nash (149) and Braxten Westendorf (184) rounded out the group of seven Peacocks to finish top five in their respective divisions.
