DECORAH, Iowa – Peacock women's wrestling hit the mat on Saturday at the Luther Open. Kylee Shoop placed second with 22 points, and Mya Mendoza placed fifth with 14.5.

After a bye in the first round of the women's 103, Shoop beat Kaitlyn Valencia (Unattached) by a fall (0:45). Then, she won in the quarterfinals (0:38) and semifinals (1:49) with falls. In the first-place match, Shoop lost to Moni Griffin (Augustana) (Ill.) by a fall (0:36).

In the women's 180, Mendoza won by a tech fall over Maddie Hall (Wisconsin–Stevens Point) and then won the quarterfinal over Katie Whelan (Augsburg) by a fall (3:47). However, she lost the semifinal by a fall (1:33) and then the consolation semifinal by a tech fall. She ended the day by wrestling in the fifth-place match, where she defeated Sidney Zimmerman (Cornell College) with a fall at 1:33.

The only other Peacock who recorded points was Eliana Callies, who finished with 6.5. She earned a fall in the second round (1:07) after a first-round bye, then added a tech fall (10-0) and a 5-1 decision in consolation rounds four and five. Callies ended her day with a tech fall loss,10-0, in the sixth round to Emersyn Miller (Combat Club). 

Upper Iowa competes in the first GLVC duals of the season in Quincy, Illinois, on Sunday, Dec. 7. UIU will face McKendree (Ill.), Grand Valley State (Mich.) and William Jewell (Mo.).
