INDIANAPOLIS - Shaquille Roman earned the Great Lakes Valley Conference's (GLVC) Defensive Player of the Week Award on Monday. The senior defensive end totaled a career-high two sacks in the 28-10 victory over William Jewell.
His first sack created a 12-yard loss for the Cardinals, helping force them off the field. His second sack came in the fourth quarter when he stripped the quarterback of the ball for the forced fumble. Roman totaled three solo tackles in the game.
Roman becomes the fourth player to earn GLVC honors for the Peacocks this season. Mante Morrow, Nathan Behne and Trevor Thompson each earned conference honors this year. He becomes the second defensive player of the week for UIU, as Thompson earned the honor last week
The Upper Iowa football team is back at Harms Family Field this weekend at 11 a.m. against McKendree (Ill.) (4-4, 4-2 GLVC). The Bearcats held the other two GLVC weekly awards this week. Running back Eddie Clark won the offensive award, and kicker Chase Reeves won the special teams award.
