Volleyball heads to Missouri for rematches against William Jewell and Rockhurst

Peacocks play Cardinals at 6 p.m. on Friday, Hawks at 3 p.m. on Saturday

FAYETTE, Iowa - The Upper Iowa volleyball team has its first rematches of the season this weekend on the road against William Jewell (Mo.) (4-15, 0-5 GLVC) and Rockhurst (Mo.) (14-6, 5-0 GLVC). The Peacocks play the teams after they faced them at the Truman State Tournament on Sept. 20 earlier this season in nonconference action. 

First serve against the Cardinals is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. in Liberty, Missouri. The Peacocks then travel to Kansas City, Missouri, to face Rockhurst at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25.

LAST TIME OUT
Upper Iowa went 2-1 this past weekend at the Midwest Region Crossover. The Peacocks fell on Friday in three sets to Tiffin (Ohio) (5-11), but rebounded on Saturday with wins against Kentucky Wesleyan (1-16) and Roosevelt (Ill.) (1-19). 

Lydia Imbrogno was the top attacker for the Peacocks with 34 kills and a .264 hitting percentage. Her best game was in the three-set win over Kentucky Wesleyan with 14 kills and a .667 attack percentage. 

Marissa Becker also came alive with 33 kills (3.30 per set). She totaled 29 kills on Saturday (4.14 per set) with a career-high 16 kills in the four-set win over Roosevelt. Kailey Porter had 20 kills and Alexis Moses had 18 kills on the weekend. 

Grace Fruzen led the setting efforts with 98 assists (9.8 per set). Her best game was against Roosevelt, where she tallied 38 assists, her second-most in a match this season. Morgan Block was the team leader in digs with 46. 22 digs came in the final game against the Lakers. 

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Martha Pace continues to lead the team in kills with 171 (3.23 per set). She ranks ninth in the GLVC in kills per set. Porter is second on the team with 143 kills (2.23 per set) and Imbrogno hit triple digits this weekend with 100 kills (2.05 per set).

Fruzen is now up to 489 assists (7.52 per set) on the season. She ranks fifth in the GLVC in assists per set and sixth in total assists. She's second on the team in digs with 160 (2.46 per set). 

Block leads the team in digs with 335 (5.15 per set). The sophomore ranks fourth in the GLVC in both digs per set and total digs. She ranks 26th nationally in digs per set. 

AROUND THE GLVC
The GLVC went 30-12 at the Midwest Crossover this past weekend, beating the GLIAC at 14-19 and the G-MAC at 13-26. The GLVC's top seed, Missouri-St. Louis (16-4, 6-0 GLVC), went 3-0 at the Crossover Tournament. 

The Tritons remain on top of the GLVC standings. Rockhurst is still unbeaten in GLVC play in second place at 5-0. UIndy (15-7, 5-1 GLVC) is in third place and Quincy (Ill.) (15-5, 4-2 GLVC) is in fourth. Rockhurst and Quincy went 2-1 at the Midwest Crossover while UIndy went 1-2. 

Missouri-St. Louis is now receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches' Poll with 16. Rockhurst also received four votes in the poll. 

ABOUT THE CARDINALS - Friday at 6 p.m.
William Jewell was one of four GLVC teams that went 3-0 at the Midwest Crossover this past weekend. The Cardinals picked up three four-set wins over Roosevelt, Ursuline (Ohio) and Lake Superior State (Mich.). William Jewell has yet to win a game in conference play.

The Peacocks fell in four sets on Sept. 20 to William Jewell earlier this season. UIU won the first set, 25-23, but lost the next three, 25-22, 25-11 and 25-23. Pace led the attackers in the game with 16 kills. The Cardinals were led by Emma Lea Benney with 13 kills and 13 digs.

Benney leads the team in kills with 166 (2.59 per set) while sophomore Macy Bartlett has totaled 127 kills (1.98 per set). Setter Reaghan Bible leads the team in assists with 310 (5.17 per set). She had 22 assists in the previous matchup against the Peacocks.

Senior Alexis Nunn is the team leader in digs with 175 (3.18 per set). She had 12 in the first game vs. Upper Iowa. Bible has 156 digs (2.60 per set), Lea Benney has 134 digs (2.09 per set) and Madison Roney has 134 digs (2.09 per set). 

Head coach Joe Adams is in his first season with William Jewell. He previously spent 11 seasons at Coe College as an assistant coach. 

ABOUT THE HAWKS - Saturday at 3 p.m.
RU enters this weekend undefeated in GLVC play, but went 2-1 at the Midwest Crossover. The Hawks fell in three sets to Wayne State (Mich.), but defeated Ashland (Ohio) in three sets and Findlay (Ohio) in five sets. The Hawks have won six of their last seven matches.

Rockhurst swept Upper Iowa, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 on Sept. 20. Alyssa McDonald had 12 kills and Sarah Pyle had 11 kills for the Hawks. Pyle added 22 digs. The Peacocks were led by Pace with 12 kills, Imbrogno with 12 kills, Fruzen with 34 assists and Block with 21 digs.

Pyle has had a tremendous senior season with 279 kills (3.77 per set) and a .234 attack percentage. She earned a spot on the Midwest Crossover All-Tournament Team. Pyle ranks fourth in the GLVC in kills per set and third in total kills.

Junior Molly Trachta leads the team in assists with 440 (5.95 per set) while Mary Kate Mulvaney has 371 assists (5.15 per set). Freshman Katie Vargo leads the team in digs with 249 (3.36 per set), while Pyle has 243 digs (3.28 per set). 

Trent Jones is in his sixth season as head coach of Rockhurst. He has a 109-49 record entering this weekend.
