INDIANAPOLIS – Upper Iowa University redshirt-freshman
Joshua Gaye has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Wrestler of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday.
Gaye stepped up to the mat for the Peacocks in the heavyweight bout and came through with a clutch 9-5 decision over #11 Tyler Hanes. He recorded two takedowns, a reversal, and an escape to fuel his victory and help lead the Peacocks to a tough-fought win.
Men's wrestling trumped seventh-ranked #7 McKendree in an 18-15 decision last Friday. This was the second time these two teams have gone head-to-head after the Bearcats defeated the Peacocks 21-18 at the NWCA National Duals in early January. This marks Upper Iowa's third win against a top-ten opponent, having previously defeated #2 Glenville State (20-14) and #9 Tiffin (30-13) at the NWCA National Duals.
The Peacocks are back home on Jan. 31 against Indianapolis at 7 p.m.
