Murty Finishes Fifth at NCAA Wrestling Championships

Senior Tate Murty saw his career-best finish at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Park City, Kan. after placing fifth at the event. The three-time All-American went 2-0 on the first day of competition to advance to the semifinals on day two.

Murty began competition on Saturday against number six-seeded Hunter James (Nebraska Kearney), where he came up short in a 12-7 decision. He then faced off against Angel Flores (Adams State) and fell by major decision (12-4).

The 141-pounder found himself wrestling in the fifth-place match against Jake Niffenegger (Mercyhurst). He ended his season, and his career, on a high note as he trumped Niffenegger by major decision (9-0).

Murty concludes the year with his third All-American honor, fourth qualification to the NCAA Wrestling Championships and a 27-11 overall record.
